Down came back from a 10-point deficit to defeat Cork in this afternoon’s early Allianz Football League Division 2 clash.

It finished 1-19 to 2-15 at Páirc Esler, Newry, where Chris Og Jones’s goal helped the visitors to move towards a double figure lead in the run up to half-time before going in 1-11 to 0-7 up at the break.

Conor Laverty’s side battled back and sent over a couple of Pat Havern two-pointers to eventually get it level before falling behind by five again and then getting a late Danny Magill goal which was backed up by another Havern two-point for the win.

Monaghan secured their second win in as many games by seeing off Dermot McCabe’s Westmeath side on a 2-29 to 2-21 scoreline in Clones.

Ryan O’Toole got a goal for the Farney men just before half-time, when they led by 1-15 to 0-9, and they’d bag another via Jack McCarron late on to erase the one Robbie Forde registered for the visitors early in the restart.

Roscommon also made it back-to-back wins by edging out Louth in the end by 1-17 to 1-15 at the Gaelic Grounds in Drogheda.

After having led by 0-10 to 0-5 at the halfway stage, Davy Burke’s side seemed to be cruising with four minutes to go in regulation as they held a seven-point advantage, but Val Leddy’s goal put the heat on the Connacht side and they’d need a late point from Conor Cox to help ensure the win.

In Navan, Meath picked up their first league win this year after seeing off neighbours Cavan by 3-21 to 0-20.

The Royals were 0-8 to 0-5 in front when Ronan Jones bagged their first goal into an empty net from long range in the 17th minute and they’d go on to hold a 1-12 to 0-8 lead at the break.

Cavan introduced returning veteran Gearoid McKiernan to the fray for the second-half and while he’d kick a pair of two-pointers late on for the Breffni men, goals at the other end from Jones and Jordan Morris had already sealed the home side’s victory beforehand.
