Loughmore-Castleiney denied Clonmel Commercials a third successive Tipperary senior football championship title this afternoon with a late 1-12 to 1-11 win in Thurles.

Tipperary hurling star John McGrath struck the decisive goal on the 60-minute mark for Loughmore after their opponents had led this final from the first to the 59th minute.

Michael Quinlivan’s goal after just four minutes had provided the holders with the perfect start and they’d go on to lead by 1-5 to 0-6 at the half.

Commercials would maintain their lead past the second-half water break but the game took a turn when Seamus Kennedy was black carded on 50 minutes.

Loughmore hit 1-2 over the next 10 minutes, including McGrath’s major on the hour mark which has ultimately secured them a first SFC crown since 2016 and 15th overall.

What will be even more sweet for the victors is that last year’s final saw them on tbe receiving end of a late Quinlivan goal to lose out to the same opposition by a point.
