Leitrim Gaels booked their place into the Leitrim senior football championship final for the first time after delivering a superb performance to oust holders Mohill.

It finished 4-14 to 3-7 at Páirc Seán MacDiarmada, where early goals from Jamie Rynn and Garvan Jones set the tone for the Gaels as they held a 2-2 to 0-0 lead after 15 minutes.

David Regan would hammer in the victors’ third goal a minute later as stunned Mohill side failed to produce a single score throughout the entire first-half in Carrick-on-Shannon.

The Gaels’ fourth goal would come via their captain Aidan Flynn in the 24th minute as they moved towards a remarkable 4-10 to 0-0 half-time lead.

The defending champions hit an unanswered 1-4 after the change of ends, including a Jordan Reynolds goal, ahead of Flynn and Sean Harkin swapping points.

Mohill got two more goals from Reynolds that saw him completing his hat-trick ahead of Conall Jones’s late two-pointer wrapping up the winning tally for Leitrim Gaels who now await either Ballinamore SOH or Fenagh St Caillin’s (Sunday, 4pm) in the county final.
