BY COUNTY PRO ED DONNELLY M DONNELLY GAA INTERPROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS Congratulations to Paul Fitzgerald (Fethard) and Robbie Costigan (Cahir) who were part of the Munster Football panel which captured the inter-provincial title for the 15th time on Saturday last at Portlaoise thanks to a 1-9 to 0-7 victory over Connacht. Paul Fitzgerald kept a clean sheet in both the semi-final and final while Robbie Costigan was introduced as a 46th minute substitute in Saturday's final. Meanwhile, Leinster defeated Munster by 1-15 to 1-12 in the M Donnelly Interprovincial Hurling Final on Saturday evening at Portlaoise. The starting line-up included Brendan Cummins (Ballybacon-Grange - Captain), Conor O'Brien (Eire Og Annacarty), Paul Curran (Mullinahone) and Paul Kelly (O'Loughlin Gaels Kilkenny) while Lar Corbett (Thurles Sarsfields), Declan Fanning (Killenaule) and Seamus Callanan (Drom & Inch) were introduced as substitutes. RAILWAY CUP FOOTBALL MEDALISTS Paul Fitzgerald and Robbie Costigan join a list of just 22 footballers from the Premier County who have won Inter-Provincial medals with Munster. The successful Tipperary players over the years are as follows - 1927 (Bill Grant, Martin Shanahan and Jim Doran), 1931 (Tommy O'Keeffe), 1941 (Jim Williams), 1946 (Jim Williams, Mick Cahill, Dick Slater and Sean Cleary, 1948 (Mick Cahill), 1949 (Mick Cahill, Packie Brennan and Tom Keane), 1972 (Dinny Burke and Michael "Babs" Keating), 1975 (Eddie Webster, Sean Kearney and Jim Kehoe), 1976 (Eddie Webster), 1978 (Gene McGrath and Vincent O'Donnell), 1981 (Harry Mulhaire), 1982 (Gene McGrath), 1999 (Peter Lambert and Declan Browne), 2008 (Paul Fitzgerald and Robbie Costigan). COUNTY SENIOR FOOTBALL RELEGATION JK Brackens secured their Senior Football status for 2009 thanks to a 1-16 to 1-10 victory over Carrick Swan in the County Senior Football Relegation final on Saturday at Fethard. Carrick Swan will now play in the 2009 Intermediate Football Championship. COUNTY JUNIOR "A" HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL Well done to Moneygall following their 1-12 to 1-11 victory over Emly in the County Junior "A" Hurling Final at Newport on Sunday last. COUNTY JUNIOR "B" HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL Moyne-Templetuohy will play Cashel King Cormacs in the County Junior "B" Hurling Championship Final in Gortnahoe at 2:30pm on Saturday. Michael Cahill (Kilruane MacDonaghs) will be the referee. Moyne-Templetuohy won this title in 2001 while Cashel King Cormacs look to become the first team from the West division to win this title since the competition began in 1993. COUNTY JUNIOR "A" FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL Moycarkey-Borris will play Cappawhite or Borris-Ileigh in the County Junior "A" Football Championship Final on Sunday next at 2:30pm in Boherlahan. Donie Cahill (Ballyporeen) will be the referee. Cappawhite will play Borris-Ileigh in the semi-final on Tuesday evening November 4th. Cappawhite won this title in 1977 while Moycarkey-Borris and Borris-Ileigh are looking for their first title in this grade. COUNTY MINOR "A" HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL Congratulations to Nenagh Eire Og on capturing the County Minor "A" Hurling title for the sixth time in their history on Sunday last thanks to a 5-10 to 1-10 victory over Upperchurch-Drombane. COUNTY MINOR "B" HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL Drom & Inch and Shannon Rovers Gaels finished all square in Dolla on Sunday last in the County Minor "B" Hurling Final. The clubs will return to Dolla on Sunday next at 2:30pm for the replay with Seamus Roche (Kilsheelan-Kilcash) as the referee. COUNTY MINOR "A" FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL Arravale Rovers will look to retain their County Minor "A" Football title on Saturday when they take on Moyle Rovers in Cahir at 2:30pm. Derek O'Mahoney (Ardfinnan) will be the referee. Arravale Rovers have won 12 County Minor "A" Football titles in their history dating back to 1934 while Moyle Rovers won their only title to date in 2003. MUNSTER CLUB INTERMEDIATE HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP Hard luck to Templederry Kenyons who lost out to Broadford (Clare) by 2-13 to 2-12 in the first round of the Munster Club Intermediate Hurling Championship on Sunday. Since Kildangan's Munster and All-Ireland success at the Intermediate grade in 2004, the Tipperary Intermediate Hurling champions have been knocked out in their first round match in each of the last four years (Burgess, Eire Og Annacarty, Lorrha-Dorrha and Templederry Kenyons). MUNSTER CLUB INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP Clonmel Og will play the Kerry champions (Gneeveguilla or St. Michaels) on Sunday next at 2:00pm in Clonmel in the Munster Club Intermediate Football Championship. Michael McCann (Clare) will be the referee. The winners will play Tramore (Waterford) in the semi-final. REFEREES Brian Tyrell (St. Marys) will referee next Sunday's Munster Club Senior Football Championship game between Nemo Rangers (Cork) and Kerins O'Rahillys (Kerry) at 2:00pm in Pairc Ui Chaoimh. Meanwhile, Noel Cosgrove (Marlfield) will take charge of the Munster Club Intermediate Hurling Championship semi-final between Blarney (Cork) and the Waterford champions (An Rinn or St. Mollerans) at 2:00pm in Blarney. CUMANN NA SEAN GHAEL This years Cumann na Sean Ghael awards take place on Sunday next, November 9th at 6:00pm in Brú Ború Cashel. The objective of these awards is to honour persons of over 70 years of age who have been involved with the GAA as a player or official at club or county level. These awards were initiated in Tipperary in 2003 and 32 Gaels (eight per division) from all over Tipperary will be honoured for their service to the Gaelic Athletic Association in the Premier County. LAOCHRA GAEL Next Sunday at 5:25pm will see a re-run of the Nicky English profile on TG4's Laochra Gael programme. Many Gaels who missed this programme when it was originally shown may wish to tune in on Sunday next. FOOTBALL BOARD MEETING The next meeting of the Tipperary Football Board will take place on this Thursday November 6th at 8:00pm in Hayes Hotel Thurles. All clubs are asked ensure they are represented at this meeting. TIPPERARY GAA MEMBERS DRAW 2008/2009 The November monthly draw in the 21st Tipperary GAA Members draw for 2008 / 2009 will take place on Friday next November 7th at 10:00pm in the Halfway Inn Rathronan. Freda Dunne will be presented with her winning prize of ?15,000 along with ?500 to promoter Tom Acheson. Lotto Jackpot winner Gerald & Colette Fennessy will receive ?5,000 after their win on Friday October 24th in the weekly draw, along with ?300 to promoter Ned Brophy. Two brand new cars will be won on the night along with 26 cash prizes and some lucky club will get a brand new set of jerseys. A Lotto jackpot of ?5,000 will also be drawn on the night. Come along and celebrate Freda's big win. NATIONAL LEAGUES The 2009 National Hurling and Football Leagues will begin in early February. The fixtures will be announced in the coming weeks with the Footballers beginning their campaign in Division 3 on Sunday February 1st while the Hurlers first game is a week later on Sunday February 8th. The Tipperary Footballers will play Cavan, Down, Limerick, Longford, Louth, Offaly and Roscommon in Division 3. The top two teams will gain promotion to Division 2 and will contest the Division 3 Final while the bottom two teams will be relegated to Division 4. The Tipperary hurlers will play Clare, Cork, Dublin, Galway, Kilkenny, Limerick and Waterford in a new look Division 1. The top two teams will contest the National Hurling League Division 1 Final. MCNAMEE AWARDS 2007 The winners of the 2007 McNamee awards were presented recently. Tipperary were unsuccessful on this occasion with the awards being presented as follows - Best Local Radio Programme - Radio Kerry; Best Website - St. Vincent's GAA Club - www.stvincentsgaa.ie; Best Club Media Production - The History of St. Laurence's GAA club, County Kildare 1957-2007 by Daragh Ó Conchúir; Best County Final Programme - Down Football Final; Best County Yearbook - Donegal; Provincial Media Award - Sligo Champion; National Media Award - Michael Foley, The Sunday Times; Hall of Fame Award - Martán Ó Ciardha (RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta) NORTH AMERICAN GAA PLAY-OFFS The 2008 North American County Board national play-offs took place recently in Boston. The 66 game tournament included clubs from 24 cities across the USA with a total of 17 championships up for grabs. The Tipperary Hurling club in Boston had teams in both the Senior and Junior Hurling championships but both were knocked out by San Francisco Na Fianna at the semi-final stage. The main competitions were won by Chicago Limerick (Senior Hurling) and Boston Aidan McAnespies (Senior Football).
