Junior Cup Final:

Our Junior Team’s Cup final against Tullamore ended up all level in St. Brendan’s Park, Birr on Sunday.

Centre forward, Teri Delaney was the first off the mark in the Junior Cup final with her shooting for a point that drifted wide. The first score of the game came from Isabella Gleeson from play but Tullamore quickly responded with a point of their own. Rachel Guinan got on the ball on the wing and passed it out to Isabella Gleeson who sent it to Lucy Lowry who handed it off to Caoimhe Quinn who hit the ball over the bar. Captain Sarah Doherty kept the Tullamore charges at bay in the full back line and Áine Rigney was crucial in the centre back position. Orla Kilmartin won the puck and passed the ball in to Teri Delaney which resulted in a scuffle in front of the goals but no goal for K/K came. Saorah Doyle, shortly after, scored her first free of the game. Eventually the K/K goal did come. Aideen Quinn gave a great pass to Isabella Gleeson who sent the ball into the back of the net and was followed by Saorah Doyle converting another free into a point and scoring a second from play. Before half time Saorah Doyle scored another two frees leaving the scoreline, 1-07 to 0-06.

The second half opened with a great save from Carol Mahon in the goals. Aideen Quinn scored a point from play just before Tullamore scored a goal. Anna Doherty gained possession of the ball and sent it up the sideline to Rachel Guinan and the ball ended up in the hands of Orla Kilmartin who whipped it into the goal. This was quickly followed by a score from play each from both Teri Delaney and Orla Kilmartin. Tullamore won a 45’ which they managed to convert into a goal, leaving them trailing by just two points. A great passage of play followed with both sides battling hard to gain hard-won scores. Amanda Keena and Eva Bracken were kept busy in the corner back positions preventing Tullamore scores. Orla Kilmartin scored a point after some great team play from Caoimhe Quinn but this was quickly followed by a Tullamore goal. Saorah Doyle scored her final free leaving the match a draw game. The whistle was blown shortly after leaving the scoreline 2-13 to 3-10 which means that the Junior Cup final will have to be replayed in a few weeks time.
