Senior Championship:

Our Seniors kicked off their Senior Championship campaign with a strong win over St. Rynagh’s on Sunday afternoon.

K/K started strong with a well worked goal from Aideen Quinn. Orla Kilmartin passed the ball to Aideen Quinn who managed to slip the ball into the top of the net. Shortly after, Debbie Flynn gained possession of the ball and pass it back to midfielder Caoimhe Quinn who sent it forward to full forward Jane Lowry.

She then gave the pass to Aideen Quinn who sent the ball sailing over the bar. Eimear Rigney made a brilliant clear in the goals, but the St. Rynagh’s forwards were on the attack immediately after and managed to get the ball into the net. K/K responded with another point from Aideen Quinn, but St. Rynagh’s won a free in their forward lines and scored a second goal and followed it with a point from play. Orla Kilmartin collected the ball on the wing and sent it to Debbie Flynn who scored her point. After a strong passage of play from K/K with the ball travelling from the backlines up to the forwards, Aideen Quinn got on the ball again and scored her second goal. This was followed by Isabella Gleeson soloing the ball back up the field after the St. Rynagh’s puckout and slotting the ball over the bar.

The half finished with another point from Aideen Quinn after a pass form Jane Lowry and a brilliant catch in the backlines from corner back Sarah Doherty to prevent another St. Rynagh’s score. K/K had a narrow lead with a scoreline of 2-05 to 2-02.

Orla Kilmartin got the second half underway with a point from play that was quickly countered by a point from the St. Rynagh’s forwards. Aideen Quinn scored another point with Debbie Flynn converting a free into a score. The St. Rynagh’s forwards were ever threatening, and they continued to fight hard to gain scores but were under pressure from the tough K/K backline of Sarah Doherty, Lorraine Keena and Sarah Guinan.

Debbie Flynn scored two more points and Orla Kilmartin followed with her third point of the game. Isabella Gleeson was unlucky not to score a goal when she received a ball from Jane Lowry into the square, but the ball drifted wide. The K/K forwards were in full flight in the final ten minutes of the game, with scores coming from Aideen Quinn, Debbie Flynn and Orla Kilmartin. The game finished up 2-15 to 2-06 after a physical contest between the two sides.
