Minor A Final:

Our Minor Team were victorious against St. Cillian’s in the Minor A Final on Saturday in Banagher.

The first half started sluggish for K/K with Orla Kilmartin having a serious chance at goal early on but missing her target.

Saorah Doyle opened the account for K/K with a smooth point over the bar. Shortly after, Aideen Quinn found the back of the net. Wing back Lucy Lowry also found herself with a chance of a score but was blocked by the St. Cillian’s goalie. Saorah Doyle upped the pace of the game with a long run in towards goals, popping over a score and following up straight after with a second. The K/K forwards were on top form with Aideen Quinn having another shot at goal but missing. Orla Kilmartin quickly rectified the situation, finding the net after some good passes from Áine Rigney and Saorah Doyle. Down the other end of the field, Stephanie Mahon had some great saves to keep St. Cillian’s at bay. Aideen Quinn finished off the half with a goal from play leaving the scoreline 3-03 to 1-04.

After the break, K/K returned to the field ready to go with Aideen Quinn scoring a goal within 5 minutes of the restart, that was nicely set up by Lily Hand, securing her hattrick of goals. Orla Kilmartin and Saorah Doyle scored a point each from play. The K/K backlines worked tirelessly to deny the St. Cillian’s forwards any serious chances. The full back line of Ciara Kilmartin, Elizabeth Kilmartin and Clodagh Murphy had to work especially hard to keep the threatening St. Cillian’s forwards away from the goals. Sarah Costello was crucial in clearing the ball out to the K/K forwards. Caoimhe Quinn won a great free opportunity that was converted by Saorah Doyle into another K/K score. During the final part of the game, the K/K forwards kicked it into high gear with a series of goals. Aideen Quinn and Isabella Gleeson scored a goal each with Aideen Quinn finishing off the final by scoring her fifth goal leaving the scoreline 7-08 to 2-08 and securing the Minor A title for Kilcormac/ Killoughey. Captain Orla Kilmartin collected the cup and full back Elizabeth Kilmartin picked up Player of the Match.
