U15 League Final:

Our U15 Team were beaten by a very strong St. Cillian’s team last Saturday in the U15A League Final.

St. Cillian’s started strong with a goal and three points in the first five minutes. This early pressure from St. Cillian’s was dealt with by Lily Hand and Sarah Costello who managed to get the ball up the field to the K/K forwards. Emer Bracken won a free that she passed out to Saoirse Spain who managed to slip it past the St. Cillian’s goalie. St. Cillian’s scored two more points before Sally Talbot made her attempt at a goal.

The sliotar was blocked by the St. Cillian’s goalie with the rebound just missing the hurl of Grace Rigney. Grace Rigney won the ball back shortly after and went for goal, but again was denied. Emer Bracken scored a second free and Sally Talbot and Saoirse Spain found hard in front of the St. Cillian’s goal but came out of the battle unrewarded. The ball flew to the other end of the pitch with the St. Cillian’s forwards scoring a goal. Emer Bracken scored a free and Saoirse Spain scored a point from play after brilliant K/K movement up the pitch, starting from full back Sarah Costello to midfielder Emer Bracken, to the K/K forwards. The first half ended 1-03 to 2-05.

Similarly to the first half, St. Cillian’s started the stronger side scoring three goals in the first five minutes. Grace Rigney was again unlucky in front of the goals with her third goal attempt being blocked by the St. Cillian’s goalie. Emer Bracken scored a free and Sally Talbot snuck a goal in with a long high ball into the top of the net. Emer Bracken was awarded a free on the 45 and she hit a straight fast ball in that hit the back of the net. However, St. Cillian’s were awarded a penalty straight afterwards which they converted into a goal. Emer Bracken scored two more frees but St. Cillian’s scored two more goals and a point securing the win with a final scoreline of 3-06 to 8-07. The K/K U15s fought a brave fight but the day was to be St. Cillian’s.
