Kinnitty Camogie Club Notes

Amy Carroll under pressure in Tuesday evening's Under 16 match against Birr

Our Under 16 girls played their final match in the group stages of this year's Championship last Tuesday evening when they played Birr in Kinnitty.  Before throw in both teams observed a minutes silence to remember Kate Moran of Athenry Camogie Club, who tragically passed away as a result of an accident at a match last week.

When play got underway, the match was the proverbial one of two halves with our girls playing well but not managing to register a score while Roisin Kinsella was the centre of Birr's attacks and all of their scores came from her courtesy of 3 converted frees and a goal.

The second half started in a similar way with Kinsella opening the scoring to leave Birr leading by 7 points but then Kinnitty/Naomh Brid not only opened their account but went on to have a mini purple patch that started with Moya Guinan popped over a free.  Minutes later Amber Mortimer added another before Moya hit over her second point.  The home team were firing on all cylinders at this stage and a goal from Hannah Robinson left Birr leading by the minimum and it really was all to play for.  Two points from Kate Pilkington stretched Birr's lead, with one coming from a 45.  But again our girls refused to lie down and while they were rewarded with a point they were unable to find a second goal that would have sealed the win for them.  No doubt the team were disappointed with the results but their coaches and supporters will have been delighted with the effort put in and especially the second half performance.

Under 8s

Our Under 8 girls had their first blitz of the year on Thursday evening when we played host to Drumcullen, Naomh Brid, Shamrocks and Shinrone.  The pitch was the usual hive of activity as always during blitzes with all the girls getting their first taste of action this year and coaches doing their best to encourage and guide the girls through the games.  Well done to everyone that took part and we look forward to the next blitz soon.

Fixtures

Our Under 12s have their first match in this year's league when they travel to Coolderry this evening to play Naomh Brid.  Throw in at 7.00 pm.  Best of luck to the girls and their coaches.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Alannah Dooley and the Offaly team who won the Leinster Under 18A Shield on Sunday when they beat Wexford in Dicksboro in Kilkenny on a score line of 1-7 to 0-7.
