Junior A Football Championship Round 1
Clodiagh Gaels 2-6 Kilclonfert 1-9. This was an entertaining encounter which finished all square but could have easily gone either way. Kilclonfert started brightest aided by a gale force wind and they went into a commanding nine point lead at half time. Aided by the wind in the second the Gaels kicked on and put scores on the board through Kevin Kinahan, Ger O'Brien and a monster score from a sideline by Nigel Cunningham. Ger O'Brien and Mark Egan rattled in a goal each in the second half to keep us in touch. The game finished in a draw with both ourselves and Kilclonfert missing chances at the end to snatch the win.
Junior A Hurling Championship Round 1
Clodiagh Gaels 2-11 Ballinamere 0-17. A game which finished in a draw but perhaps Ballinamere should have won after missing two late frees. It was a game which lacked quality throughout but every player was made work hard for every ball. Mark Egan scored a goal midway through the first half to put us three points up but Ballinamere quickly pulled the game back to a draw. With minutes remaining Mickey Monaghan put the ball in the net from a free thirty yards out to put us a point down and that was soon followed up by a great John Paul Casey point out on the sideline. Ballinamere had the chance to take the two points on for two missed frees.
Division 4 Football League
Clodiagh Gaels 2-8 Durrow 2-14. An understrength Gaels team travelled to Durrow on Sunday looking for their first win in the league but unfortunately it wasn't to happen. A very strong Durrow team took control in the game and never looked like being beaten despite Kevin Hinch and Mark Egan scoring goals for us.
