Replying To royaldunne:  "Good performances all around I thought. Keoghan tightened up the back line. Colgan kick outs were a improvement but still below what is required , but credit where it's due. The half back line was very good , joey wallace had probably his best game in a Meath shirt, Morris was excellent was was O'Sullivan, McMahon worked hard , Costello I thought also had a good game, hickey was motm in my opinion (but 3/4 others could have been) Shane Mc had a very good game. The inclusion of james mcentee added something that we have been missing for a while. He is just one of those players and his performance from the bench was outstanding. I honestly couldn't say any particular player had a really bad game, menton is obviously carrying a knock and he probably wasn't as good as he normally is.
Now the one huge negative. THE DRAW. I mean FFS.
That's some kick after a great performance."
Goalkeeping was not tested as Longford nearly never pushed up. Two times they did, he kicked over sideline and straight down the throat of a Longford player. What do you mean kick in teeth with draw? It was either now or next time out. Not like we will improve drastically if we are given another round.

why should it be seen as a negative .. we should be jumping out of our boots to play them after last year .. we cant be afraid we have to believe we can win ... look at wexford today died with their boots on .. we have given them far too much respect the last few years and we were beaten before we went out.. get our own game right and fight like dogs . believe believe .. side not time the county board start looking after supporters club members .. I am 40 years following all meath teams and just because I don't have the right face no ticket .. Newbridge .. mullingar and again today .. when u pay 140 euro membership for club an mhi u should get a ticket for at least one of them games

Ahh ur right and by the time the match comes around I will have convinced myself and anyone else who listens that Meath cannot loose and there will be absolutely no way that I won't see us winning.
Just thought another crack at Kildare would have set us up nicely for them.
And you are right about tickets. I got two but I won them. Not a hope of getting one otherwise. And unfortunately I don't know what we will do v dubs for tickets.

Actually agree ! Would have liked to put the Kildare defeat to bed ! We would beat them if we got them again for sure

Lads done all that was asked of them today and ran up impressive score against a defensive team, however under no pressure Colgan kicked four straight into arms of Longford players and one over sideline, at this stage dont know what answer is to this problem. A major plus was the introduction of James Mac, kicked some great points, always looked composed and full of confidence and has to start next day. Hickey continues to improve and good to see Lavin back on form. Talk of moving game to Navan is understandable but nothing more than an unwanted distraction , there has been enough of that in last few weeks. Nothing to loose in next game, if we are ever to beat them it will be a game like this early in championship. Was Andy Mac serving a sideline ban today?

I'm not going to give out about club and mhi (I got two of them tickets today). But the big surprise to me was the fact they only get 4 tickets. Surely 50 today would have been a acceptable amount

Did not see that performance coming! Well done lads after whats been a poor league run and a dreadful couple of weeks for Meath GAA. Couple of strong individual displays particularly by younger players and maybe not as many absentees as we thought! GAA has a major problem though with a really big gap now between teams with so many total mismatches over the last couple of weekends. Even at the top table Kerry easily dispatched Tyrone in the latter stages of the league. In championship Mayo winning by 20pts, Limerick by 18, Kerry by 17, Donegal by 16, Monaghan by 10, Armagh by 13, Westmeath by 16, Meath by 22 and maybe not as dramatic but Galway and Dublin winning comfortably by 7/8pts each! In most cases the big teams not even getting out of second gear and still running up massive scores. Meath are probably the only team to get anything out of any these games in the form of a badly needed lift after the Kildare nonappearance and before the Dublin game. Any chance of a Navan fixture?

Very good performance all round, great to see James Mac back out there whom was brilliant also.

Funny to see the certain posters absent following a good days work

Personally I'm absent as it's like North Korea on here. Dozens of posts deleted , anything approaching mild criticism of current management is deleted.

A canter against div 3 relegation candidates at home isn't anything to get too excited about. We've seen this before. I'm glad we are playing Dublin next though to give these lads a chance put some pride back into the jersey. But if they genuflect to Dublin yet again in a crime park embarrassment then it's ball burst time surely (that might be too close to criticism so this won't be posted I imagine).

Whilst yesterday was a good performance there's still an awful lot of room for improvement. Well done to the lads, the went about that match in the right manner, but if they think they'll be within an asses roar of Dublin playing like that they're screwed.

Postives, a solid display from many players on the day and some very clinical finishing at times. They never let up on the standards which is very encouraging. More of that. Subs again made an impact on things, 1-4 from Banty and James was very good to see. There seemed to be a plan and style for yesterday and they went out with a focus from minute one which was lacking during the Kildare match. When they attacked they did so at speed and tried to move the ball before the contact point, Fair play to Matthew Costello he nailed the 45, seemed to have some technique and routine to his approach, hope he's working on that in the background, they hit Longford for scores where it hurt, pressurised the kick outs and got turnovers

However....

Negatives - Longford were very poor on the day and once Meath got a few points ahead their heads dropped, maybe i gave them too much credit. Kickouts still a huge issue, when Longford did press up on them Colgan put one over the line, one into a longford players chest and others i can't remember. Players are still running up blind alleys and carrying the ball into tackles, Fionn Reilly did it a couple of times and he wasn't the only one - Dublin would eat that up all day. Free taking is still patchy at best, Jordan kicked a very poor wide in the first half from almost straight in front. Lavin if he's a designated man marker was very loose early, to his credit he did tighten up but against Dublin the space he gave could be a goal. Some very silly lazy tackles giving frees away in kickable positions, can't be doing that

Players reviews
Colgan 6 untested on shots but kick outs poor when pressuirsed. Will need to up it substantially v Dublin to even be close to break even
Lavin 8 Got better as the game wnet on, got foot hand or head to balls and kept his man locked up. Hopefully getting back to his 2019 form line which was outstanding
Ryan 7 decent outing but not sure of his place as he's not a full back and Hickey and Reilly have been impressive in the half back line
Koeghan 8 Did everything well as he normally does. Still the best we have
Hickey 9 what a game from the young man, looks an absolute future gem of a player. Didn't have to defend at all so could get up the pitch. That won't happen v Dublin. gave away a couple of handy free's needs to be a little more disciplined
S McEntee 7 took his goal well, was always an out let for ball and did most things well. Whilst he was good here i still wouldn't trust him to perform as well v Dublin
Reilly 7 Some good and some awful stuff. Few frees given up and didn't have to defend at all. Got up the pitch well, supported the attack, moved the ball well. great point but should've had a second
Menton 7 Got a good score but I'd say quieter than usual. You'll need a huge game from him the next day
Devine 7 as with Menton a quite game. A favourite of andy's but if Jones is available he's not starting
Harnan 7 as with the above quiet game but didn't seem to do anything wrong. Seems to be a player who does the dirty work very well and is unseen in doing it
McMahon 8 four points and yet he seemed to be quiet. Needs to be played closer to goal to get those scores he can.
Costello 7 Linked things well and kicked a great 45, quiet game otherwise
Morris 8 good and bad from him. Needs to work on his creating space and kicking accurately at all times. Free's need work still
O'Sullivan 8 - he was his usual dynamic self, covered the whole pitch, got scores, created scores, worked hard but a couple of his usual solo runs added in, its hard to blame him for that but you just know that a decent manager would've worked in that with him
Wallace 7 one of joey's quieter games, think he got one good score but maybe an impact role suits him more to use his pace at tired defenders.

Eamonn Wallace added speed and direct running when needed, James Mc should be kept in reserve like that. Michael Newman has all the tricks and awareness but is a little too languid at times. Jack O'Connor and Banty got runs when the game was dead so hard to judge them.

Lots of positives but still a lot of the same negatives which haven't been worked on. I'd not get too far ahead of ourselves after the display from the opposition. On the day they beat what was in front of them but the Dubs won't be losing any sleep over it.

6 minutes before half time we were 1 point up.....so agree with Brian...we need to be very realistic about what happened on Sunday...that said, Sport is as much about momentum and attitude, and once the Management walk the Squad through both individually & collectively , the various possible scenarios they will face the next day ...then we can absolutely close the gap form the 2020 Game. Added to that , even ignoring the Cluxton issue, I do believe that there are just slight ever so slight fall off in standards between the 2020 version of the dubs & the 2021 version
Some of this is age, some is injuries & some could be attitude . I thought I saw Dublin players on more than a couple of occasions not taking the right option last week against Wexford . Dessie can possibly fix this in 2 weeks.....but , to me its just small things like this that we have to try & exploit
