1.Colgan 2.Ryan 3.Lavin 4.Harkin 5.Jamee McEntee 6.S Mcentee 7.Hickey 8.Harnan 9.David Dillon 10.Devine 11.McMahon 12.Eamon Wallace 13.Morris 14.Newman 15.O'Sullivan" No Fionn Reilly, Lavin at #3 (remember the Goal v Kildare) and Skipper Shane at #6, forget it. Some chance if you switched Shane Mc and Paul Harnan and put Fionn Reilly in the middle of the field, he is the BEST midfielder on the panel. Full back is a real problem but Lavin is not the answer.

Replying To brian: "Graham, that's not a bad shout either. Can i ask why Fionn Reilly and Matthew Costello are out? Think Reilly was one of our best v Kildare. Costello admittedly hasn't been great this year so i'd understand that ommission." In Fairness i had fionn in ! Would have no probs starting him ! Think Costello would maybe come on Good impact sub ,This team was only picked because of all the missing players

I've been otherwise engaged this past while and if Im honest almost disinterested about the championship, but here I am nonetheless and as always I'm excited. I'm completely unaware what I'm excited for, but there we are.
Congratulations to the Minor squad on winning the Leinster title! Congratulations to our women's team on a very impressive victory in the Div. 2 final against Kerry. Great victories. Great boost to morale. To the women's team in particular, a result like that is a universal sign in Gaelic football of a very good team. Kerry don't lose games in that fashion often in any contest.
On Longford... I remember the build-up to 2018 well. I remember looking at the teamsheet and the recent record at that time under the new management of McEntee at the time and I was very concerned about the game. I wasn't seeing the difference in quality on our teamsheet that would win a championship game in Pearse Park. I just wasn't seeing the maths adding up right. It was only 20/30 minutes into the match itself when the reality started to set in with the travelling Meath supporters, and by the end it was like a wake. On the day Longford were the better team.
This time around I don't have the same fears. I think Meath have improved enough to confidently say that we are worth the advantage afforded by the bookies. We have played better sides, played more games, and developed more good, and decorated young players than Longford have in the intervening period. Our advancement (albeit with constant setbacks) has been obvious. We simply have more cards to play, and it's in Navan. That's the biggest factor. In saying that, Longford are a stern, good team. They're under-rated. In Pearse Park they're a force. As always with the Meath of the day, if we don't perform it'll be a quick cameo in the championship and the credits will roll like they did in 2018, make no mistake.
Im with other posters, I struggle to see the motivating factors for county players in this championship. It's a bleak, bleak, bleak situation. But I guess since Kerry are motoring nicely and Ulster will be a trench warfare style dogfight as usual, and the Dubs are the ever present pin-up boys that all is good, and there is in fact nothing to see here, and football has never been in such fine fettle. Time will tell. Once again - I'm excited, but I have no idea why.

Must admit felt more or less the same until this week, I am fully aware whats coming down the line if we win, however the nearer it gets the more I feel its a game we have to win. We will be missing a few, however, we are at home, have played at higher level and if we win there is a good chance some lads will be back. Win or loose it looks like we will have same management in place for next year, so would be nice to get another crack at Kildare (if they get past Offaly) and hopefull face the Dubs in final with a fully fit panel( long term injured excluded) to choose from. The alternative is very bleak for the future of Meath football.

If we lose you would think current management would just step a side. At let someone new progess these ne bunch of meath players. I can't take anyone of it to be honest. It desperate stuff. Massive problems all over the place. Everyone knows them at this stage. we seem to going back at a rate of knots. Getting another shot a Kildare is largely irrelevant. What's the prize to play Dublin no thanks. We lost the important game. Sadly maybe its for the best.

Terible pessimistic post bobkarlgee what an Awful attitude you have, imagine being a player on the meath panel having to read that rubbish, I for one would love if meath beat Longford on Sunday, I hope if they do then in the semi final its kildare and we get our revenge, a victory in the championship always has been and always will be bigger then one in the league if we had 5 more minutes we would of won the league game, and if we do get to the leinster final against the dubs wouldn't it be great for them players to get a chance to prove that there a better team then what last years performance was, we wouldn't beat them this year either but we won't learn anything from hiding from them, best of luck to Andy Shane and the meath team on Sunday. UP THE ROYALS

I will on the edge of my sit watching game watching for any sign I am totally wrong. Players shoul'nt take any notice of want is said on here. I doubt they do. I have no grip with the players they are fantastic bunch of players given it everything. Its the management and certain player that should be anywhere near the playing every second of every game is my main issue. everyone knows it. At least I still have interest in my county lads that I grew up and played football have no interest anymore. All still still involved coaching kids. But no interest in the county team. anytime I talk about Meath they quickly change the subject no one seems have any interest anymore. I will never stop supporting Meath. But I struggling to be optimistic for short term future. With messing that is going never seen the likes of before in Meath. I allways taught that we where above that.

Ok I've decided to return for the championship. I want to sincerely thank all of you who sent wishes to my son (he's doing fine now thank god) and who also called out the behavior of a certain poster (I've only been reading up ). It means so much, so from the bottom of my heart. Thank you.
On the matter in hand, I am lucky enough to be attending this game tomorrow, I'll try to give updates if I can as things happen, but after 18 months of not been at a match , the occasion might get to me, if people would like I'll give a analysis tomorrow night after the game (I'll try to be non biased and take off the green and gold glasses.). Anyway it's good to be back. And again thank you al, l even those from other counties. We may argue and fight and bicker over football but at the back of it we all have a thing called common decency that is the core of the gaa grassroots. Hon the royal.
