Drums fall to O'Mahony's
March 23, 2008
Drumconrath's Trevor Skelly
A severely depleted Drumconrath team gave Navan O'Mahony's a real North Meath welcome but the town teams greater strength in numbers proved too great in Division 2 of the ACFL.
O'Mahony's 0-16
Drumconrath 0-8
Drums shorn of some main players like Pete McMahon, Kevin Flanagan, Stephan Crosby, Austin Hickey and Thomas Carolan gave OMahony's a decent game until the strength in dept of the Navan team shone through.
It was nip and tuck early on as O'Mahony's led 0-4 to 0-2 [David McMahon and Alan Byrne scored for Drumconrath] after the first quarter but a double yellow carding for county player Mark Ward, who was finding the going tough against a Drumconrath midfield pairing of Wayne Reilly and Terry Skelly, rocked their boat a bit. Navan soon settled and noted another four points. Drums finished best with points from Ollie McMahon and Byrne again but the half ended in turmoil as Barry Regan [O'Mahony's] and Padraig McMahon both saw red just before the short whistle.
O'Mahony's, backed by the rising breeze, had to fight hard as Drumconrath refused to lie down but in the end had just too much fire power. Drums Alan Byrne notched another two points as Wayne Reilly and Ollie McMahon also pointed but O'Mahony's used the increasing open spaces well to add eight more second half scores.
The excellent Wayne Reilly and Terry Skelly were best for Drumconrath who really lived up to their Motto of "Pride and Passion " and these two were supported best by Peter Tighe, Alan Byrne, Chris Tighe, Brian Flanagan and Ollie McMahon.

At Drumconrath
Syddan 3-5
Drumconrath/Meath Hill 2-6
h/t 2-0 to 2-3
Aided by a strong breeze Drum/ M Hill got off to a poor start as Syddan scored a goal on their first attack. The Red and Blue notched 2-3 without reply and looked a safe bet until a late goal narrowed the gap to three points just on half time.
Syddan soon led as now back by a near gale force wind as they got 1-3 in the third quarter to lead 3-3 to 2-3. Slowly their North Meath neighbour got back into the game with three points to level it but two late points seen Syddan home.
Drumconrath/Meath Hills Enda Boylan gave a brilliant display for the home side and was best supported by Daniel Myles and Ian Malone
Drumconrath/Meath Hills - Niall Yorke; Maria Gilsenan, Ryan Owens; Edward Cassidy, Enda Boylan, Conor O'Halloran; Daniel Myles (0-1), Jonathon Finnegan (0-1); Ian Malone (1-4), Luke Doran, Tomas Conlon; Anthony Crosby (1-0), Brendan Crosby.
