On Friday night, at 8.00pm in Walterstown GFC, the successful Meath U14 LGFA panel gathered for the presentation of their Leinster U14 Championship winners' medals and their All Ireland runner up medals. Presenting the medals on the night to the panel was Fearghal Harney, Meath LGFA Chairperson, and in attendance were the Meath U14 LGFA panel, their parents, and guardians and their Mentors. Phil Fay, the Meath U14 Manager was MC, and refreshments were served after the presentation.
What a great bunch of girls this year's Meath U14 LGFA team turned out to be. They lightened the year up for their coaches at every training session they took part in. They instilled a pride in the County with their all "go", dynamic performances and they left the required 110 % on the field in every game they played. Along with the legendary "never say die" attitude that was synonymous in Meath teams of old, and the pride with which they took to the field in the Meath colours was there for all the followers to see.
For their first year together in a competitive setting, they performed brilliantly, and as their coaches, the Management Team of Phil Fay, Alan Browne, Greg Carry, Anne Donnelly and Jen McGrath stated on the night, they could not have asked for, or received, more.
Phil Fay wished every one of these Meath Gaelic footballers the best for their future playing careers in the green and gold of Meath, safe in the knowledge that these girls have the ability and the potential to achieve even greater things. But what a first step for these young Meath Footballers to take this year, and going forward the sky will be the only limit.
As in all successful teams it takes a large number of individuals moving together in the one direction to achieve success. This year's Meath U14 Team was no different, so a big thank you must go out to all the players, parents and sponsors, our main sponsor Noel Moran of E Comm, and Sean Sheridan of Avonmore, Clonsilla Blinds and Navan Credit Union and to the other many sponsors of this team who help in various ways. To all the ladies from throughout the County who helped out with catering for a very active group of girls and supporters - a huge thank you.
As stated on the night, it has been a pleasure to get to know, and work with the band of people that were involved with this year's Meath U14 ladies team, the players, the coaches, (the coaches better halves and parents) and the County Board. A special word of thanks must go to Anne Dungan, for the supply of the photos which chronicled this team's All Ireland adventure from start to finish.
Finally, a word of gratitude to all the clubs who help the team out over the year with the supply of facilities, to Drumree GFC, Walterstown GFC and Navan O'Mahonys, your help during the year in supplying a football pitch to train on was much appreciated.
