Kilmessan 2-22 Trim 1-22
The Division 1 Minor Hurling League Division 1 final didn’t take centre stage in Kildalkey as a preceding and exciting Division 2 decider went to extra time. With both teams ready to go referee Sean Gahan checked sundown time (9.40) and the condition of Kildalkey’s second pitch and made the decision to play the game there.
The Town side held the upper hand when these two met in last years Under 17 MHL Division 1 final at Pairc Tailteann.
The waiting around did nothing to curb the players enthusiasm and what followed was a very exciting game with great hurling skills displayed on both sides in front of a large crowd.
Kilmessan worked tirelessly in every position with numerous man of the match displays throughout the field. In the first half both teams traded scores mostly from placed balls, the accuracy of Conor Horan proved crucial as the teams went in level 0-10 to 1-7 at the break.
In the second half Kilmessan upped the work rate and had some outstanding scores from play including an inspirational point from the hardworking Khalid Daramola and a super goal from Stephen Cahill.
Trim battled to the very end but just didn't have enough to curb the Kilmessan firepower. With the sun well set in Fr. Plunkett Park, Stephen Cahill accepted the cup from Diarmuid McCloskey (Meath GAA Development CCC) on behalf of a jubilant Kilmessan team.
Huge congratulations to them and management team of Joey Keena, John Wall and Conor McCarthy. Thanks to Gary in Centra for the well received post match refreshments.
