Dunderry 2-27 Boardsmill/Rathmolyon 2-26 AET
Dunderry and Boardsmill/Rathmolyon served up a thrilling Minor Hurling League Division 2 final played in ideal conditions in front of a large crowd at Kildalkey. In the end extra time was needed to separate these two very talented sides.
Supporters coming in for the second game at Fr. Plunkett Park, the Division 1 final, would never have guessed that their game would be delayed because of extra time.
With Charlie Fagan and Ciaran O’Brien outstanding, Dunderry led 2-15 to 0-9 at half time. Fagan scored 2-5 while O’Brien accounted for 0-7 of their team’s opening half tally. The two Patrick’s, Guy and Cribben kept the amalgamation side in the game with some excellent scores.
Boardsmill/Rathmolyon were a different force in the second half. Five unanswered points from Darragh Purcell, Liam Healy, Rhys Farrell, Guy and Tadgh Callaghan had them back in the game. A brace each from Fagan and O’Brien seemed to have steadied the Dunderry ship and at the end of the 3rd quarter they held ten point lead.
Guy started the Boardsmill/Rathmolyon revival with a goal. Jack Drum, Eoghan Fitzsimons, Guy, Cribben and Dan Callaghan (2) added points and a goal separated the teams with injury time to come. The combination side won a free outside the 21 and the impressive Guy made no mistake to send the game to extra time. Full time Dunderry 2-21 Boardsmill/Rathmolyon 2-21
