Seneschalstown came out on top of this low-scoring semi-final in Paddy O’Brien Park on Tuesday evening, with temperatures dropping for the first time in a couple of weeks.
Paddy Dillon opened the scoring with a point from play in the fourth minute before Seneschalstown equalised with a tenth minute free, having missed a penalty, and midway through the half the side remained level with a point apiece. Both sides had kicked a number of wides
Following fouls on Ronan Clarke and Aodhan Mallon, Robbie Keelaghan and Mallon respectively split the posts with frees. Seneschalstown pulled one back from Shane McCarthy was fouled after a great dispossession and Mallon converted the free. Late scores from Keelaghan and Clarke, after a pass from Conor Finnegan, left O’Mahony’s with a three point advantage at the break.

The second half was even slower to start from a scoring perspective, with nearly ten minutes lapsed before the umpires raised a flag. This changed rapidly in the most impactful period of the match, with Seneschalstown scoring three two-pointers in as many minutes and swapping the three-point advantage.
Evan Coffey and Mallon kicked points, from a free and play respectively, to reduce the gap to a single point entering the final quarter. A point and a two-pointer from Seneschalstown in quick succession left four in it with eight minutes to go and O’Mahony’s chasing the match.
Although Coffey fisted a point and Jack Quinn kicked a good score from play, O’Mahony’s couldn’t break through for the score they needed. With ninety seconds on the clock, Seneschalstown scored what looked to be an insurance point. With O’Mahony’s needing a goal, it came at the opposite end deep in injury time to leave Seneschalstown progressing to the final.
