Dunshaughlin maintained their unbeaten record in the K McKeown Carpentry and Home Improvements Div. 8 league with this nine point win over Moynalvey in round four played at Dunshaughlin on Thursday evening 24th May.

Dunshaughlin 2-13 Moynalvey 0-10

The first half was a low scoring affair with Moynalvey holding a slender 0-4 to 0-3 lead at half time, however with both sides guilty of bad wides in the first half the home side found their shooting boots in the second half to outscore Moynalvey 2-10 to 0-6 in that second period.

It was the host side who were first to trouble the score keeper with two points from Cormac Dowling in the 8th and 9th minutes. Moynalvey opened their account in the 9th and 12th minutes with a pair of Evan Drum points to leave it 0-2 apiece after twelve minutes.

A couple of Anthony Brien saves in the Moynalvey goals kept Dunshaughlin at bay, before Moynalvey regained the lead with an Aaron Sweeney point, which was soon followed by a Luke O’Halloran point to leave it double scores 0-4 to 0-2 in favour of Moynalvey with twenty one minutes played.

Dunshaughlin added a point from Sean Clancy before referee Sean Gahan blew his half time whistle meaning Moynalvey were a point up, 0-4 to 0-3 at the break.

Two minutes after the break Luke Duffy pointed a free to extend Moynalvey’s lead out to two points, but a pair of Dunshaughlin points had the sides level seven minutes into the half, 0-5 apiece.

Moynalvey regained the lead for what would be the last time with a Luke O’Halloran effort, before the home side took the lead with a brace of points to leave Dunshaughlin 0-7 to 0-6 ahead eleven minutes into the second half.

Moynalvey’s Evan Drum  drew matters level again for a final time in the 42nd minute before Dunshaughlin’s dominance started to count on the score board as they reeled off the next 1-4 without reply in a five minute period to lead 1-11 to 0-7 with forty seven minutes played, the goal coming from the penalty spot.

Moynalvey’s Evan Drum and Luke O’Halloran briefly interrupted this Dunshaughlin scoring spree to make it 1-11 to 0-9 with forty nine minutes played.

Any brief hopes of a Moynalvey comeback were extinguished with a second goal for Dunshaughlin in the 51st minute, which was followed up by another pair of points for the home side to leave it 2-13 to 0-9 to Dunshaughlin with three minutes remaining.

Moynalvey pointed a late consolation score through the re-introduced Ronan Thompson to leave Dunshaughlin comfortable nine point winners on a 2-13 to 0-10 score line when referee Sean Gahan blew for full time.
