O’Mahonys 2-14 Trim 2-7

Navan O’Mahonys welcomed Trim to Brew Hills on Wednesday evening for the third round of the Division 3 adult camogie league. These sides had delivered a pulsating encounter in the 2023 Intermediate championship final, and this latest renewal of their rivalry provided another absorbing contest.

Played in perfect conditions, in marked contrast to the heavy rain of the previous 24 hours, O’Mahonys started well and edged ahead in the opening quarter thanks to well taken points from Lauren Woods and Aoibhin Kielty. When midfielder Isabel O’Connor crashed home a goal from close range mid-way through the first half it looked as though the home side were well in control. However, the second quarter belonged to a Trim side who worked their way back into the game impressively and answered back on the scoreboard with a goal of their own before half time. Indeed, their purple patch could well have yielded more scores were it not from some impressive defending from Doireann Mellett, Amanda Feeney and the versatile Milly Murray.

Playing into the Brews Hill goals for the second half it was the visitors who were the first to register a score to cut the deficit to the minimum. The intensity levels from both teams picked up noticeably and there were some excellent passages of play from both sides as the ball was moved quickly with no player allowed to settle in possession. A fortuitous Trim goal was cancelled out almost immediately by a similar speculative strike from Aoibhinn Kielty from a narrow angle.

Izzy Kinsella now operating on the forty, finished expertly for two much needed points. Jorja Keogh whose excellent line balls were a feature of the game, landed a long-range score from just in front of the dugouts to put a little bit of distance between the sides as the game entered the final 10 minutes. Further excellent scores from Mia McNally and Sarah Corcoran rounded off some clever team play and ensured that O’Mahonys completed the group stages unbeaten.
