Sunday was a special day for Seneschalstown’s Under 16 Girls as they captured Meath LGFA Under 16 Division 2 Championship honours with a handsome victory over Ratoath in a sunny Fr. Tully Park on Sunday afternoon.
Seneschalstown dominated from start to finish as they racked up an incredible tally of 9-12, doing most of their hard work against the wind when they got in for six of those majors.
Along with some fine individual displays, Seneschalstown’s goals came from an array of positions around the park, with Anna Donnelly, Katie Clarke, Aoife Dungan and Rebecca Burke all finding the Ratoath net in the first half.
Seneschalstown continued to plug away in the second half and added further goals with Donnelly, Dungan and Susan Finegan all raising green flags while at the back, captain Sadhbh Monaghan, Caitlin Dunne and goalkeeper Caitlin Gallagher were all in fine form among a defensive unit which was extremely watertight throughout while Rebecca Burke and Katie Clarke never stopped running in midfield and all of the substitutes made a telling impact once introduced.
Some of Seneschalstown’s shooting was exemplary while the kick passing through the lines was smart and effective.
The management team of Joe Finnegan, Ciaran Finegan, Catherine Colgan and John Dungan deserve great credit for having the team so well prepared and along with this superb group of players, complete a three in a row for themselves by adding this Under 16 title to success at Under 15 and Under 14 levels.
The display put on by the girls excited those in attendance and with many of them having played on our Junior Ladies team this year, the future is looking bright for the club.
