St Mary’s 0-10 Drumconrath 0-8
Wasted chances when wind assisted in the 1st half were to ruin Drumconrath's chances of progression in a lively evenly contested Quarter Final in the well appointed Ludlow Páirc.
Drums had a whirlwind start as Matthew Durnin and Patrick Farrelly had pointed within the 1st minute and while the Donore men pointed after 5 minutes, Three Daniel Byrne points had Drumconrath in command but despite a lung bursting performance from talisman Steven Crosby scores dried up for the traditionally Red men wearing a new Black strip.
A late pointed Mary’s free seen Drums just 3 points up and in reality it should have been at least twice that.
As in the 1st period again a flurry of early points at the start of the 2nd half kept the good size crowd entertained as Byrne pointed twice and St Mary’s added 3 to their tally as Drums held a 2 point lead as the game entered the last quarter.
Points from St Mary’s on 18 & 21 minutes leveled the game for the 1st time since the throw-in but Byrne again pointed on 24 to push Drumconrath ahead again.
Marys levelled within a minute and took the lead for the first time with 58 minutes on the clock and a late point from the men in Green and Red saw them edge a close encounter and progress to the semi final.
Crosby was best supported by Oran Brady and Jamie O'Neill in what overall was a disappointing ending to the Reds season.
