Premier Div 4 FC: Dunderry bounce back

September 09, 2024

Dunderry's Adam Kelly

Dunderry 4-14 Blackhall Gaels 1-12

11 o clock Sunday morning in Batterstown was the time and venue for this Premier football championship game. Dunderry were looking to get back on track after losing to Ballinabrackey in round 2.

Blackhall opened the scoring with a free before Mark Leavy 'marked' and chipped over. Blackhall struck 2 from play and 2 frees to lead by 4.

Oisin O Neill intercepted a loose pass and found Kelly who duly dispatched to leave the minimum between the teams. Blackhall weren't going away though and responded with 2 from play before Rian Fay drilled home to tie up proceedings. The teams traded points from play with Dunderrys coming from Donagh Ó Laoires boot before the man in the middle blew for half time with the score 0-8 to 2-2.

The black and whites came out for the second half with a more offensive mindset and through Mark Leavy and a Bob Doherty free we had equalled our first half points total! After a Blackhall converted free the Dunderry lads took control of the game. Liam Rattigan found himself far away from his own goal and tapped over sweetly with his trusted left foot. Leavy pointed twice from play either side of Kelly's second Goal. Doherty used the breeze and his experience to the full while slotting over from play this time. Blackhalls  response yielded them two points - one from play. Darcy who had been harshly substituted returned to the fold and let his feelings be known when he gathered on the 40 and the ball ended up in Caffreys car park after crossing the black spot on the way. Next up was a man who obviously really missed the physicality of the game. Welcome back Conor Sheridan 0-1. Lambay man Ó Laoire guided a beauty off the outside of the boot before Kelly completed his hatrick. A goal past the solid Fitzgerald was as good as it got for Blackhall and with Alan Waters steading the ship in the backs and Bob doing the same in the forwards kicking 3 frees.

Dunderrys supporters were treated to a nice mornings entertainment but then again it's easier when your winning.
