Trim 4-31 Dunderry 1-08
Report Kevin Coleman
Kilmessan was the venue for this 2nd Round clash between Trim and Dunderry.
Trim were coming here off the back of an opening round victory over defending champions Kildalkey, while Dunderry must have been similarly buoyed up after their opening round success over St Peters.
Although both sides began tentatively, the first score coming after five minutes from Trim’s Joey Cole, it was very apparent by the end of the first quarter that Trim were in no mood to afford their opponents any leeway and had already raced into a commanding lead of seven points to one. The other Trim scores coming from the trusty free taking of Kyle Ennis (2), a brace from Mikey Cole, the second one from a pass by Josh Harris who improvised brilliantly after he dropped his hurl, another from David Murtagh and a fine individual effort from Mark Molloy.
Dunderry responded with efforts from Evan Nolan and Daire O’Driscoll but Conor Quigley found the back of the Dunderry net for the first time and Trim followed with seven unanswered points before Dunderry struck again, on the stroke of half time.
Half Time: Trim 1-14: Dunderry 0-4
The start of the second half was deja vous and Trim had already registered two goals and a point by the fifth minute, an opening point from Joey Cole, a Mikey Cole goal, and another from a cheekily taken free by Kyle Ennis, who found the net past a bewildered Dunderry defence.
The remainder of the game was a mere formality but Trim showed some fine team play, ended up with nine players putting their names to the score sheet, and had a mere three wides to show for their efforts in that second half, compared to an opening half of eight such misses.
There was also a Senior Championship debut for George Douglas.
To their credit, Dunderry battled on against adversary and were rewarded with a fine goal from Donagh O’ Laoire late in the game.
