Killyon 3-14 Na Fianna 1-13
A determined Killyon had seven points to spare over na Fianna in the last game of the opening round of the Meath SHC played in very warm conditions at Pairc Tailteann.
Patrick Jordan got the scoreboard working for Na Fianna but Killyon replied with three points from David Raleigh (2) and the influential Keith Keogan.
With countyman Seanie Martin in fine form Na Fianna opened up a 0-7 to 0-5 lead after twenty minutes but for the remainder of the half Killyon dominated. Three points from Keogan and one from Dylan Farrell put them back in front before Dylan Farrell got the games opening goal on the stroke of half time to give his side a 1-9 to 0-7 interval lead.
Adam Farrell and Keogan extended that lead with early second half points but Na Fianna were back in the game soon after with 1-1 from Rory Fagan, his goal coming from the penalty spot.
Killyon’s response was instant. Centre forward Adam Farrell wearing the number 19 jersey won a high ball and moments later had it in the back of the Na Fianna net. Minutes later the same player was fouled in the square and Keogan dispatched the penalty to give his team a nine point lead with ten to go.
Na Fianna battled bravely and were rewarded with four unanswered points from Fagan (2), Eoin Bright and Ronan Byrne but Killyon were not to be denied and finished with a brace from David Raleigh and Farrell to seal the win.
The winners take on Longwood in round 2 while Na Fianna play Ratoath.
