Moynalty 2-13 Cortown 1-04
An injury ravaged Cortown were no match for a much slicker Moynalty side played in beach like conditions on Tuesday evening. With a seaside breeze blowing down the field and a hefty dose of sand underfoot, you'd be forgiven for thinking you were in Bettystown and not Moynalty.
The home side elected to play against the stiff breeze and glaring sun in the first half and were quickly into stride. The opening goal arrived through a goal-line Scramble with Kian Lynch eventually finishing to the net.
It got worse for Cortown who lost Goalkeeper Colm McGearty and Veteran Daragh O'Halloran in the early exchanges with McGearty's brother Johnny replacing him and the Faithful's Kevin McGuinness replacing fellow golden oldie O'Halloran.
Following further scores from Paul Lynch and Ollie Sheridan, Mikey Rennicks gave the visitors a much needed shot in the arm. The wing forward made a typically penetrating run from deep before playing a neat one-two with Brían Smith and sliding under the advancing Johnny Lynch.
Moynalty responded with their second goal, a fine finish to the roof of the net to give them a seemingly unassailable lead approaching the break. Davy Rispin did tag on a point for Martin McGovern's men following an offload from Hugh Staunton to leave the Tidytowners in cruise control at 2-05 to 1-01.
Moynalty simply kept the scoreboard moving in the second half. They were greatly assisted by some poor Cortown play and basic errors which enabled the like of the Lynch brothers, Sheridan and Jude Gilsenan all registering white flags.
A late brace of frees from Rispin along with a rare left footed effort from the returning Daragh Smith helped to put some respectively on the final score but Moynalty were thoroughly deserved winners on the night.
