Rathmolyon's Jamie Doonan keeps his eye on the ball during the Billy Byrne Cup final against Drumree at Rathmolyon

Rathmolyon 2-21 Drumree 2-14

Rathmolyon brought home the Billy Byrne Cup for the first time. It was a proud day for the Village to overcome Drumree at home to claim the Billy Byrne Cup. Billy was a great clubman and served the club for many years. PHOTOS

With  Drumree opening the scoring in the second minute of the match Ciarán Regan's shot dropped in front of the Drumree goal, causing confusion between Drumree fullback and goalkeeper, resulting in a goal.

Another Cathal Regan free and a Kevin Mulligan point, set up by Trevor Healy had the hosts ahead. The following moments saw two points and a goal from Drumree keeping them in contention.

As Cathal Regan and Kevin Mulligan kept the scoreboard ticking over Darren Hennessy found the back of the Drumree net to bring the scoreline at half time to Rathmolyon 2-08 Drumree 1-07

With Ciaran Regan opening the scoring of the second half, Drumree kept chipping away at The Village's lead into the third quarter.

However, Rathmolyon kept the better of Drumree into the closing stages and despite a late Drumree goal, it was Rathmolyon's for the taking.

The team showed great spirit with particular mention to Kevin Mulligan, Trevor Healy, Joey Christie and Arthur Doyle.
