Moynalty 2-08 Summerhill 1-06

Storm Kathleen made conditions extremely difficult for Moynalty and Summerhill early Sunday morning, but it served up a tough and competitive fixture from start to finish.

The first half saw Moynalty shoot against the wind, and scores were difficult to come by as the ball was worked through the hands only to be met with a solid defence from Summerhill. John Brogan kicked what was Moynaltys only score on the 20 minute mark. Half time score Moynalty 0-01 Summerhill 0-06.

The second half saw the fortunes reversed, as Moynalty immediately added two points to reduce the difference to 3 points. Ollie Sheridan proved to be the difference maker in the final third, kicking 4 excellent points in the including a brilliant free kick by the sideline early on in the half. Substitute James Lynch and a mark from Paddy Byrne put Moynalty ahead by 2 coming into the closing stages, and this encouraged Summerhill to push forward. This resulted in a late flurry of goals for both sides, as Paddy Gallagher finished off a Moynalty counter attack cooly into the Summerhill net. Summerhill hit back themselves with a goal, but Ollie Sheridan put the game to bed with a goal at the last kick. The result leaves Moynalty with 4 points from 3 games in the Tommy Dowd Oil Football League Division 5, and the next game is away to Trim at 11am on Sunday April 14th.
