Tailteann Shield final: Late Sheridan points sees Moynalty retain title

Moynalty and Cortown went blow for blow for 60 minutes in a low scoring but highly entertaining match played on Wednesday night.

Both sides went into the game in good form, and it was clear from the throw in that both sides were full of confidence. Moynalty got their noses infront in the first half and kept the lead narrowly as Cortown's defence held strong. Jude Gilsenan impressed kicking two first half points, but Captain Johnny Lynch led by example making a big save to deny Cortown a goal, and kicking a point himself making his presence felt at both ends of the field. The second half was equally as competitive, with scoring chances proving few and far between for both sides. Jude Gilsenan and Dylan Farrelly both scored to keep Moynalty ahead, but it was Ollie Sheridan who got the most important score to put Moynalty ahead with the last score of the match. Referee Ian Dowdall blew the full time whistle with the score at Cortown 0-07 Moynalty 0-08, confirming Moynalty's retention of the Tailteann Shield after also winning it last year.

Moynalty now have a quick turnaround, with a Tommy Dowd Oil Division 5 League Game against Summerhill at home on Sunday at the rearranged time of 10am.
