St. Colmcilles claimed the Meath Minor Football League Division 1 title in emphatic fashion with this comfortable win over Dunboyne in ideal conditions at Simonstown last night. PHOTOS

Bar for a brief period in the second half the winners, who have already won the Spring League Division 1 and the County 7's,  were never in trouble.

St. Colmcilles set the tone for the game in the opening seven minutes. Points from Kyle O’Brien, Conor Brennan, Oisin Corcoran (3) and Naoise Maguire had the Seasiders 0-6 to 0-0 in front before Dunboyne got on the scoreboard through John Harkin. Corcoran extended the lead minutes later with the games first goal. Maguire, Conall Horan (3) and Michael Timmons added points as John Maguire’s charges took a 1-12 to 0-3 lead to the half time huddle.

Dunboyne, now playing with the aid of a breeze, enjoyed their best spell in the game after the break. Three points from Harkin and a fine effort from corner forward James Lonegan narrowed the lead but all their hard work was undone on the 10th minute when Naoise Maguire was on hand to finish a high ball from Horan to the Dunboyne net. Harkin added another three to the St. Peters total before the final whistle but it was the ‘Cilles’ night and they went on to claim the silverware with a bit to spare.

After the game Fintan Porter presented the MFL Division 1 cup to St. Colmcilles captain Michael Timmons.
