Unprecedented quiet times on the GAA front and with no return on the horizon because of Covid-19 we have come up with a novel way to keeping your Royal GAA mind occupied.
Since 1987 we have won four All-Ireland finals. You the reader can have a say in picking our Best XV from that glorious era.
And there you have it. We are down to the last position. Next week we will announce the team.
Donal Curtis was one of Sean Boylan's utility players that was at home in any position in the Green and Gold. In the opening round of the Leinster that year the Rathkenny star was a half back but started at corner forward in the '99 win over Cork. The present day selector also kicked a valuable point in what was Meath's last Sam Maguire Cup win.
One of the unsung heroes in the 1996 all Ireland triumph was Barry Callaghan. The Dunderry star scored in every game apart from the drawn All Ireland final. His goal and three points against Tyrone in the semi final win will live long in the memory.
Bernard Flynn was the final piece of the jigsaw in what was probably one of the best full forward lines in the history of the GAA. Small in stature but the RTE pundit terrorised defences for over ten years with his pace, vision, skill and accuracy. The St. Colmcilles star wore the Number 15 jersey in '87 and '88 wins and has a vast medal collection that also includes 5 Leinster's and 2 All Stars.
