The backdrop to this game is one of tragedy for Monaghan GAA following the heartbreaking death of their U20 captain Brendan Óg Ó Dufaigh last night. Such tragedy is hard to fathom and all we can do is offer our condolences to Brendan's family and many friends. In light of that incalculable loss, football seems almost irrelevant today.

This is going to be epic, energy-sapping fare. Both teams will tear out of the blocks with fierce intensity. What a start to the weekend!

What a start to the day we are going to have - Clare against Wexford in the sweltering heat of Thurles! It promises to be one of the games of the year. Knockout hurling at its finest on its way in less than 15 minutes. The Davy factor will of course take this to a whole other level. The fact that the year will end for the losers means it is going to be a match with no compromising!

The stage is set for five fantastic, high-stakes encounters and we will be hammering out live updates throughout the afternoon and evening and perhaps even into the night.

The first of this year's Ulster SFC semi-finals pits neighbours Armagh and Monaghan against one another at Newry, where throw-in is at 4pm.

There are also two first-round senior hurling Qualifiers going down for decision on what promises to be a scorching Saturday afternoon of red-hot action: Clare and Wexford do battle in Thurles at 1:30, while Waterford lock horns with Laois in Nowlan Park at 2pm.

SHC:

In the senior hurling championship, it's Leinster final day, with holders Kilkenny and Dublin clashing in Croke Park at 7:30. This game is preceded by the Joe McDonagh Cup final meeting of Kerry and Westmeath (5pm).
