The Galway SFC is set to be completed on time after St Michael's last night lost their appeal to the DRA over how the score difference rule was applied.
St Michael's contended that the new score difference rule which was passed at Congress earlier this year should have been implemented in the Galway SFC, just as it was in the Galway SHC. The new rule limits score difference to the games between three or more teams who finish on the same number of points whereas the old rule applies to all games in the group.
St Michael's finished level with Tuam Stars and Dunmore MacHales in Group 3 of the Galway SFC, but failed to qualify for the knockout stages under the old score difference rule. They brought their case to the DRA after it was rejected by the Connacht Council.
Last night's verdict means that the Galway SFC semi-finals will proceed as planned next weekend with holders Moycullen facing Mountbellow-Moylough and Corofin taking on Milltown.
