Galway attacker Conor Whelan looks to be in serious doubt for next weekend Leinster senior hurling championship second round clash with Westmeath.

The Kinvara clubman was withdrawn from today’s drawn encounter against Wexford after having suffered a hamstring injury with just over 10 minutes to go at Chadwicks Wexford Park.

The game itself saw Henry Shefflin’s side let a six-point lead slip as Lee Chin struck the last four points to snatch the Slaneysiders a 1-19 apiece draw.

Speaking after the final whistle, Shefflin confirmed that Whelan indeed suffered a hamstring strain and that the injury will be assesses over the coming days.

“Unfortunately, he has picked up a slight hamstring strain, so we are not quite sure,” he is quoted saying by The42.ie.

“It will be a couple of days and we’ll assess it.”
