Only great teams win back to back All Irelands

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Lads after we being told all year that this Dublin team were great and fantastic and cruising along in 2nd gear, they were fired out the gate yesterday! Not only that but they have the huge advantage of playing every game at home, which if any other county in Ireland had they all would have a stack more All irelands to their name!

It just goes to prove that this Dublin team along with Cork wont be remembered as a great footballing team as they were unable to defend their All Ireland title even when drawn on the soft side of the draw!!! They are simply over rated by their fans and by the media!

Who was the last 'Great' team to win back to back Football All Irelands ...............

As the age old GAA saying goes: "An All Ireland 'won' without your province, is not an All Ireland 'won' at all!"......to try and claim 'back to backs' via the 'backdoor' when some other team in that years championship has already been your master is totally cringeworthy!!

Cork 89 and 90. Both wins came without defeat in those years.

The revisionists are out in force this morning. There is no such thing as a "lucky" All Ireland, any team that wins it had to put unreal effort in to deliver especially in the modern game. Over the last 3 years this Dublin team has won an All Ireland and been beaten in 2 semi finals, no other county in the country has a record as good as that over the past 3 years. Maybe they will not be considered as one of the greats but what they have achieved is no mean feat.

As far as yesterday goes, well done to Mayo, the better side won no doubt about it!

it takes a big man to come on and put the boot into a team who lost
dublin fought like true champions yesterday 10 points down with 20 minutes to go a lesser team would have folded there and then but to bring it back to two points and had bernard rounded the keeper and got the goal we might have been looking forward to another all ireland final but it wasnt to be.
also nobody had been hyping dublin up this year most people in the media and anywhere were actualy doing the opposite saying they hadnt the hunger

I am of the belief that it is almost impossible to retain the hunger needed to get back to back titles.

You need players who have that extra bit of skill to compensate for this and a bit of luck. The more years that a team become winners the less you can attribute to luck and the more to skill.

This is how good teams become great teams.

You can sense the absolute relief among kerry that Dublin didnt put titles back to back via the front door!

Although I remember M O'Sé saying after the final last year that "kerry will be back".....they certainly did come back this year and exited the championship two games earlier than they did in 2011!!

Dont worry kerry, we didnt do the back to back 'untainted' (that being the only true back to back) so that the two of us trailing behind Cork 89 & 90 in that regard!

Now now snuff, some perspective please. If Dublin had the opportunity to win an AI through the backdoor in the "famine" years you would have taken it gladly.

Look, for sure the record books would have shown the 'win' but it wouldnt have been anything to brag about!.....the fact that some other county during the campaign had your number would have just wrankled too much!!

A 'champion' must be the master of all men......any time, any place, anywhere!!.........Not be master of some of the men, some of the time!!

Well Snuff it looks like the Admin wont let me post anything on here this morning .......... they must be as Dublin blinkered as you!

Ah Snuff well as much as it pains you to say it Kerry were the last GREAT team to win Back to Back All Ireland which added to their tally of 36 ....... Just imagine how many All Irelands we would have if we 'Played every game at home, invested millions, poached players from outside counties and had the largest population in the country to pick from' ......... the mind boggles!

"Cummupance" ............ Your favourite word seems to have come back to haunt you ;)

Only great teams win AI's.

Very good teams reach finals

Good teams get knocked out in quarter/semi finals.

Does that mean the Tyrone team of the 00's were not a great team...? Of course they were...

Stop the rubbish. Just another bitter Kerry man that still cant take his beating... build a bridge lads. 8 points... :)

Back door lads...

The great Kerry teams of the past never needed a back door.

2003 / 2005 considered back2back for us as 2004 was Annus horribilis in Tyrone for obvious reasons .

Did Dublin beating you last year really get under your skin that much?

who coined the phrase that a team must win back to backs to be great? are you telling me that my own tyrone side who won 3 in 6 years under very trying circumstances arent a great team???

Wiseup mate dublin beat kerry fair and square last year same as donegal did this year build a bridge and get over it.

In fairness Duke, he never mentioned Tyrone, he's just winding up the Dubs......who in turn have been winding us up. Cork and Dublin (to a lesser extent) should've won another All-Ireland. Tyrone proved their greatness with 3 fantastic wins in 6 years. Cork will have to win another to be remembered and same goes for Dublin.
