Highest Ever Attendance In A GAA season

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

The Grounds Tournament Final used to be played in Wembley and televised on R.T.E. in the 1960's.

The biggest attendance at an All Ireland Final was Down v Offaly and they reckon there was over 100,000 at it but official figures say 95,000 people used to sit on the walls behind both goals, on the roof of the stand and all around the grass verge of the pitch !!

I read on several occassions that Down's Paddy Doherty was the first player to score a hatrick at Wembley.

Completely irrelevant to the thread, but a lovely snippet of history nonetheless.

Apologises.

The man I was thinking off was the Late Great Patsy O'Hagan (RIP) who became the first Irishman to score a hatrick at Wembley in 59.

734070 i Believe that teh all irelqand final last got 82,000? i believe this is the highest?

He meant over the entire season. Read the post more carefully buddy!!

And 82,000 isn't the highest individual attendance ever. I think that attendances hit about 90,000 in the 1960s

It couldnt because croke park was never as big but it could not of been this because my dad told ground could only 65000 for finals in 1996 so could not be 90,000"
There's was 85k official attendance at the 54 hurling final between Wexford and Cork. Rumour has it there was a great deal more than that, two fellas inside one long coat etc.

90,556 was the Official attendance.
There were 3 terraces back then
Canal, Hill and all along the Cusack side was standing terrace downstairs.

Back in those days you could just walk into Croke Park, no pre booking tickets. Kids weren't counted as they went in with an adult. 90,000 would have been a conservative number!
