Was it discipline or did he not work well with Davy? Remember him being in and out of the squad

I don't think he worked particularly well with Liam Dunne either

Commitment issues were the main problem.

There were a few issues with Jack Guiney which infairness need not be discussed here. As others said, and I have no problem saying it, he was one of the best young hurlers to come out of Wexford in many many years...he had it all..things happen, habits develop, and comittment is not there, and unlike in olden times when lads were full facilitated with the wink and the nod, that day is gone and if no commitment its bye bye...he was one player I would have loved to see go on and have a long senior career, but, it wasnt to be..he did try, but it just didnt happen. A big loss to Wexford hurling, but such is life, someone else gets a chance that might never have gotten a chance...

Hurling is a team sport.

Lets say he till a look at what's involved in being an inter County hurler, and decided that it simply wasn't worth the effort. Would you blame him?

I wouldn't blame him either. Intercounty GAA is now so serious you either make it your life or you forget about it. Funny, I marked him one night and I think I got the better of him. He was hurling out the field so while theoretically I held him scoreless from play....he is not very fast and I just made his life hell for the hour! I'm definitely not convinced he was ever in the Conor McDonald/Rory O'Connor category either though. StoreysTash (Wexford) - Posts: 1822 - 02/07/2021 14:15:52 2355408 Link 1 |
He was more of a playmaker than an out and out forward like Rory and Mac. He was never particularly fast even underage. Cant believe we are still talking about him after all these years.

i was at the league final offaly won that roy mannion was man of the match in. he was really a giant of a hurler. hugely skillful, massive physicality with the hurling world at his feet. at that time he was regarded as the best we had. what happened after was a tragedy really. maybe should have been managed better by eamon cregan but im sure theres 2 sides to every story..whos to say if he had played on offaly might have won 3 or 4 all irelands such was his talent. but 2 was a good haul really i suppose. kavvie (Clare) - Posts: 505 - 02/07/2021 19:59:33 2355451 Link 0 |
It's not that many years in fairness. He started the 2017 leinster final

Aaron Cunningham of Wolfe Tones in Clare was another guy who showed really well but seemed to fade away. Bon (Kildare) - Posts: 2269 - 03/07/2021 13:22:32 2355580 Link 1 |

We got 94 and 98 but Roy Mannion was gone before 94 championship so he has no AI senior medal...
