Thought it might be a good idea to have the various opinions on the draw for the group stages on one thread? letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 720 - 30/04/2025 12:27:07 2605644 Link 0 |
Does anyone really care…. 24 matches to eliminate the 4 teams that will more than likely get knocked out before a ball is thrown in… A complete waste of time

It's the last one before reverting back to the old back door system so stop moaning.

One extremely tough group - one very handy looking group. Fionn (Dublin) - Posts: 4181 - 30/04/2025 13:56:23 2605678 Link 0 |
Great draw for Monaghan. Difficult draw for Dublin. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 720 - 30/04/2025 14:03:47 2605681 Link 1 |
Word is that there will be a vote to retain the group stages beyond this year. Some tasty games to look forward over the next few months. With the exception of Cavan all teams will fancy themselves to go through.

Roscommon WAY better off, losing semi than making Connacht Final. Farcical system, delivering those draws.

I know the system needs changing and it is next year - but.. looking at the 3 of the groups groups - I can's say with any confidence who will get knocked out. Unfortunately, I think Cavan will find it hard to pick up a win but other than that, I wouldn't call any of the Groups Cbar (Mayo) - Posts: 343 - 30/04/2025 14:26:01 2605699 Link 0 |
We definitely would have taken that draw. A bit silly that we have arguably the best group of the Connacht teams despite getting knocked out before either Mayo or Galway!

A Kerryman must have done the draw? They always get a handy group.

Dublin to make Prelim QFs with "three strikes & they are in"? omahant (USA) - Posts: 3224 - 30/04/2025 14:41:47 2605709 Link 0 |
Monaghan now have brilliant chance already to get to an All Ireland quarterfinal. Likely Louth away, Clare at home and Down neutral. shaggykev (Donegal) - Posts: 316 - 30/04/2025 14:43:07 2605710 Link 1 |
Delighted with that draw for Dublin, the very thing. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4507 - 30/04/2025 14:48:57 2605713 Link 1 |
Granted - but Roscommon Cork and Meath / Louth are all in with a shout of qualifying.

It does now look like being in the Ulster final is punitive from an All Ireland perspective. Donegal would have their eyes set on a bigger prize than Ulster but have a tough route now. Monaghan got as good a draw as any team could have hoped for but they won't have the horsepower to capitalize later in the year. Would Kerry be better off losing Munster? Not in their make-up but probably would be. Still, they are the big winners in the draw- sit back and watch the other contenders take lumps out of each other. Two tough groups and two handy groups. Mayo and Galway would have got easier draws if they lost their Connacht semi finals. Kerry got as handy a group as they could have wished for and will have to play their club championships in May to keep their players sharp. Nice handy draw for the leinster champions also - real kick up the **** for Dublin Ulster winners have to play Tyrone two weeks after Ulster final Connacht winners have to play Dublin (at home) two weeks after Connacht final. While I would love to see Dublin coming to Castlebar, an away match against Derry and a nuetral venue v Armagh or Donegal is as tough a draw as you could get. If Derry have their players back, there is no gimme in this group. Losing Connacht gets a handy home match v Cavan, away to Tyrone and Donegal/Armagh at a Nuetral venue. - not much better but should qualify from group. Monaghan have the best draw of the lot as a reward for losing to Donegal. tirawleybaron (Mayo) - Posts: 1343 - 30/04/2025 15:22:28 2605735 Link 1 |
