fair play to the sars they now have a chance to survive yet again, starlights in trouble now, did not see that coming Stmunnsriver (Wexford) - Posts: 3007 - 23/08/2025 13:40:45 2633211 Link 0 |
Not sure why the last post didn't go through but a bit of a surprise in the towns relegation battle, I would have had the Starlights to get through that one, clearly Starlights are not in a good place either. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 2055 - 23/08/2025 14:26:34 2633214 Link 0 |
From what I can see Starlights are guaranteed to be in the relegation and would fancy them to beat bottom of the other group as it looks to be a lot weaker. If Glynn beat Kilanerin it's a shootout between them and Sarsfields for a quarter final spot. Who Starlights play is dependent on results from New Ross this evening or might even go to next weekend. Still think Shels and Castletown are the front runners but Gusserane are edging closer.

Bunclody beat fethard by 5 very scrappy stuff lot of handling errors so down to next week now Ryanworld (Wexford) - Posts: 25 - 23/08/2025 20:29:38 2633256 Link 0 |
Does anyone know if the head to head rule goes out the window if one of the teams has given a walkover? I know in 2023 Naomh Eanna went into the Junior football relegation final because they had giving a walkover they had the Martins on head to head. paddybull (Wexford) - Posts: 52 - 23/08/2025 20:41:24 2633260 Link 0 |
Me neither. Surprised also to see the relegation final already decided in Intermediate with a game to spare and even more surprising to see Cushinstown being one of the names in it. Thought they would have enough to be pushing for a quarter final but can't have been an easy year for the club on the football side all things considered.

I reckon Kilanerin and Castletown should win today. Apparently Shels are without a lot of players due to a wedding and I think Kilanerin are a bit too good for GB, I see them as one of the top 4 if not 2. I don't know why they were so flat against Castletown but perhaps tehy know they have to meet them later on at some stage anyway.

Part 2 relegation battle of South West Ross district to come fethard v st James. Expected fethard to have a big impact this year . St James v starlights relegation final Well done to bunclody defied all the odds and now in 1/4 final . Sars looked in big trouble but pulled it off looking at programmes lot of unfamiliar names lot of young lads and big turnover of players. Few hurlers missing off all teams lads travelling but sars seem more affected than most this year Castletown shels gusseranne look like front runners Kilanerin glynn next best . C/beg seem to be wobbling losing good leads in 2nd half last couple games fitness? Bunclody prob peak being the 1/4 final . Sars v outside chance of 1/4 final depending on others. Hard to know if gusseranne group is as weak as is made out dont think its that lob sided would nt think much betwee c/beg glynn bunclody kilanerin on given day . Would love to see gusserane and kilanerin final . Doubt it though . Sheks Castletown final shels to win out . If they don't meet beforehand. Starlight look in trouble unless they up the ante considerably . Formertownie (Wexford) - Posts: 425 - 24/08/2025 11:43:29 2633320 Link 0 |
at the start most would have said it was between sarsfields and bunclody who would go down, now they both safe with one game to go, god i love championship football, think starlights will survive Stmunnsriver (Wexford) - Posts: 3007 - 24/08/2025 12:13:44 2633321 Link 0 |
Yeah, that's still the case. If you've given a walkover, you go straight to the bottom of the pile. Example: you finish on two points but have given a walkover along the way, and only actually lost three matches on the field of play. The team you beat also finish on two points, and it's just a two-way tie, as everybody else has three or more points. Normally you'd be above them in the table as you have the head-to-head result over them. But because you've given a walkover, it doesn't matter even if you beat them by 50 points or more. You go to the bottom of the pile. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 3028 - 24/08/2025 14:16:20 2633330 Link 0 |
Missing some of their best players too, apart from the tragic death.

Yesterdays games were as predicted. Shels down a few key men so they won't be too worried about the loss. The first half GB had no cutting edge and had a number of bad wides, either they wanted to see what their forwards could do without Cooney or they didn't care but they won't go far with him on the bench. Kilanerin didn't look the team of old and were playing it very cagey in the first half but showed what they can do in the second when they run at teams. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 2055 - 25/08/2025 13:26:00 2633512 Link 0 |
