That was Donohoe who dropped the ball not Foley

Tbf the only two standout keepers now in inter county are Quaid (injured) which only leaves Murphy then, maybe Pa Collins at a push. Pretty big drop off after that.

I'd definitely put Duggan, Andy Kennedy, Dylan Byrne and Fanning ahead of him at the senior grade. Would like to see Derry Mahon given a go at some stage also. OpenStandWall (Wexford) - Posts: 207 - 04/03/2025 20:52:13 2594789 Link 0 |

Derry Mahons main fault was speed of puckouts. I haven't seen him in a while has he improved this aspect of his game?

I posted about Brennan and Rowland too but the post never went up! Tallis is good also.

Looks like we may have Jippo back fit for the Limerick game. That would be a massive boost please god he can stay fit. Afinestick96 (Wexford) - Posts: 453 - 05/03/2025 09:18:37 2594831 Link 0 |
Don't think Rowland is with Laois anymore

He stepped away, but didn't say he was retiring.

I had to turn that podcast off. A tough listen. Noel clearly didn't want to offend anyone.

Heard that also, he targeted the Limerick game to be included in the matchday squad

You mean you don't want to listen to why Shane Tomkins was not on the podcast? I assume they still have that in-joke at the end? No offence but I used to listen when it first started as it was something new but its a very weak podcast. Every show is "Ex-1990's hurler...." and the intro is as said before what a podcast made in the 2000's would be. ExiledInWex (Dublin) - Posts: 1278 - 06/03/2025 13:20:42 2595042 Link 0 |
On the topic of being relegated, I think you lads are too indifferent to being relegated. I do not put major creedence on the league but lets face it, you have 1-2 good games in 1B and beyond that you are a hurling development county providing games for even poorer teams. Relegation to 1B in my opinion wont do wexford any damage. Relegation is never nice but everything is what you make of it. It is a stark reality that without our main players ( ROC, RYAN CHIN etc) we struggle. All those main players are hitting the 30+ age bracket. Young players need time to get to terms of intercounty senior hurling from a strength and condition pov. That was never as stark as when CBD went to line up Deegan for a shoulder against KK in the league and literally bounced back off him. It was a 22 year old ( I think) with 2 years senior hurling trying to hit a a late 20 year old with over 6+ years senior hurling. Division 1B at a glance you have carlow drawing with offaly and beating waterford. Dublin losing to offaly and waterford. Antrim drawing away to carlow. 1B allows what will be an extremely young team time to get to a physical standard while still getting a high ( all be it not as high as 1A) standard of hurling and not fearing a hammering from anyone. Agree with all of that except Rory will only be 27 at the end of this year. It would've been nice to be in 1a next year but it's not the end of the world if we aren't. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 15047 - 06/03/2025 15:05:43 2595062 Link 0 |
I agree other than Rory hasn't hit his prime yet. Still with the panel we have now it's an opportunity to catch our breath and build a little bit. It's not as if our best available team got hammered by everyone. Other than the Cork game we've done well at times and I would say are improving. Our big players are now coming back at the right time. I will say this though, we absolutely cannot afford to get stuck there again. If Antrim lose to Laois at the weekend, think they'll end up in Division 2 next year
ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 398 - 06/03/2025 15:51:57 2595078 Link 0 |
I see that match is to ahead despite the virus in the Antrim squad this week. And it's the case that if Antrim lose, they'll definitely be relegated. Have done some looking myself at the tables, and while there's a fair bit of guesswork here, I reckon Div. 1B next year might look like this: - Wexford - One of Kilkenny/Limerick/Clare - maybe most likely Clare - Dublin - Carlow - Laois - Two of Down/Kildare/Meath Whichever of Kilkenny/Limerick/Clare goes down would obviously be favourites to go straight back up. Maybe between ourselves, Dublin, and possibly Carlow/Laois after that. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2734 - 06/03/2025 17:38:33 2595104 Link 0 |

Saving grace is that if Laois beat Antrim at the weekend, we won't have to worry about Corrigan Park next year!
