In conversation it was remarked that you hear things now being said at Games that you did not hear in the 80's
Things like
No 1 Text me the score of that Game
No2 Do you have a Plug in place for my Car
No 3 No cash allowed

Agh sure many more new sayings exist

One thing that hasn't changed is people saying 'pity that the match isn't on the telly'.

Big difference though is that back then, there were probably only eight matches shown live per year - the four All-Ireland senior semi-finals, the two senior finals, and the two curtain-raiser minor finals.

Now you've about 40 matches shown each year on RTE, God only knows how many more on TG4, and somewhere around 40 on GAA GO as well, and people still aren't happy......

You have a point. Much as we all love watching the big games in Munster and in Ulster football that we can't get to, there was a mystique about the big games back then that made being at one more of a pleasure.

I can still recall almost everything about the big Dublin football matches I was at in 70s but also visits to Thurles in 80s to see the Cork Tipp epics which were truly incredible games to witness.

We are spoiled.now .... said no grumpy oul fella like me ever :-)

A great roar I heard at a Galway and Ros game in recent years after long bouts of handpassing by both teams was a fella shouting, "it's called f%#king football, kick the f%#king ball!"

That is very true. If someone brought you home a match program from an inter-county game in the 80's, you'd be delighted and read it cover to cover. Would never be asked to bring one home now.
