Yes I agree. Most fans are missing dozens of games that they'd like to watch. There's more games, but not enough time to watch 10% of them, if you're following your own county's fortunes in one or two codes. We've 4 teams playing quarterfinals next weekend, who'll be playing their third game in 14or15 days, and Mayo exiting last night having to play Derry just 6 days after emptying their tank trying to bate the Dubs. The structure needs less games, or more spacing between certain weekends. Pope_Benedict (Galway) - Posts: 4140 - 23/06/2024 19:55:59 2554123 Link 1 |
What time is the draw on the radio? JahTribe (Galway) - Posts: 155 - 23/06/2024 20:00:58 2554128 Link 0 |
I see no reason why teams can't play on for another period of extra time. Again GAA copying soccer. Get a proper result not a manufactured one.

The top 2 teams of the 4 groups should have qualified for the quarter finals. All teams would have had a 2 week rest.

100%. Ye are rested and that's fair enough but its not fair to Galway, Roscommon, Derry and Louth to have to play again for no apparent reason only to get it out of the way as soon as possible. There are 3 hurling matches and 7 football matches left at senior level but they must be done and dusted as soon as possible and that's a joke and hard to understand. Croker will be empty for some of July, all of August and September when those 10 remaining games could be staggered out.

Absolutely not. Play till there's a winner

Fair enough! What about a silver point! But only if it's Mayo! ;-)

The reward for winning the groups was a week off. The jeopardy was in having to play three weekends on the trot. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8791 - 23/06/2024 21:44:51 2554172 Link 0 |
Louth v Cork was up there with one of worst sporting spectacles I have ever witnessed on tv. Past hurler (None) - Posts: 927 - 23/06/2024 22:09:05 2554182 Link 0 |
Totally agree with this. It's a farce the one week gaps and then playing against teams with 2 weeks gaps. Prelim winners are out 3 weekends in a row next weekend. It belittles the championship in terms of preparation and recovery time for teams and players who give their lives to the cause through the mud and rain of winter and spring, only to be raced through the championship then at breakneck speed. It suits us next weekend playing a jaded opponent, I'm not going to pretend I'm not pleased about that from a selfish point of view. But if the shoe was on the other foot I'd be raging. In the group stages, Cork had a 2 week gap between the each game and we had one week between game one and two. How is that fair? It's a messy structure overall. We had the same issue in Ulster between the Derry and Tyrone games. The integrity of the championship depends on minimum 2 week gaps between games for all teams at all times. I find it disrespectful to players, coaches and fans also who have hardly time to breathe financially in this current format.

Why can't the draws be made on Sunday evenings?

Because that might make common sense

Yep that is what I reckon also. With an all Ulster semi final.

Interesting draws. Kerry/Derry be one I'd pick if non Dub neutral. Should be something else. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3528 - 24/06/2024 08:55:16 2554233 Link 1 |
