Replying To Viking66:  "Sport is supposed to be all inclusive. People should stop politicising his speech would be more the point. The speech was excellent, but he was wrong about something in it. Tony Kelly doesn't have a Munster Senior Hurling medal, unless he bought or was given one. Apart from that the speech was spot on."
Tony Kelly must have a Munster medal if Jarlath said so….. The resident snowflakes here seem to think he does or says nothing wrong… so he most definitely has a medal…!

Genuine question, is there something in the water in Cavan?

Tony Kelly has won 2 Munster minor titles, three Munster u21 medals as well as a Munster club final medal. I think Clare haven't won a Senior Munster final since 1998

Let's be clear here… Jarlath Burns is a serious step up from what was there before but it's a bit early to be lauding the guy… All we know so far is that he can deliver a good speech even if each one is getting longer than the last.. Until this man tackles some of the issues within the GAA that he has identified and delivers the changes that will bring improvements especially to football then it's just more of the same… Some geniuses here were on about giving him a second term after he spoke for the first time…. keep the powder dry and let's see if there's more to this guy other than just a talking shop…

Fair question. However one would have to empty one of Cavan's many lakes to be as deluded as that lad is. The tripe that he spouts out on the various forums would make Donald Trump look like an honest broker. On one forum Jarlath Burns is his friend that is going to save the GAA and on another he is the big bad wolf. The Cavan lads don't even reply directly to his nonsense any more. I can only imagine the conspiracy stories he is working on, should Jarlath have to say a few words next Sunday before handing over Sam to Armagh. "Come on Armagh"

The negativity just flows out of him. His bed must be against the wall as he keeps getting out the wrong side. Good luck on Sunday.

All true. But if that's what Jarleth was talking about he surely would have said 6 Munster medals? In any case if you are going to count them why don't you throw in his 2 Munster Senior Hurling League medals as well?

Jarlath just didn't do his homework but saying that might annoy his new fan club…. Will they still be fans when his term is up I wonder…?

Great speech by Jarlath Burns on Sunday. The GAA is fortunate to have such an articulate President.

Burns speech on Sunday capped off a great day in Croker showcasing the best of Ireland and what we have to offer, he articulated what a lot of us think. I doubt the far right were watching the hurling or listening to Burns-Tommy Robinson is more up their street, but they would have seen real patriots there not flag waving fascists.

I think the GAA should release an official statement condemning violent actions that are happening, that would make sense and might make any members involved in such activity think twice...maybe. Perhaps they have already, if so, fair play.

However I think it is time speeches before and after cup presentations should stop in general. They are a chore. Better for a captain to do a press briefing in the media room or wherever after the excitement has died down and they've collected their thoughts. And there they could thank whoever it is they want.

And with that perhaps the GAA president could be interviewed after the game and interviewed about their reflections on the hurling/football year as appropriate. And if they had anything else to say then so be it.

Being right wing doesn't automatically make someone a racist. I slant to the right and yes I was watching the game. Why would you think my political stance would impact the choice of sport I watch?
Regarding the speech, I cringed at it actually, playing up to the American audience with the 'diaspora' carry on. I have quite a number of distant cousins in North America and they are not remotely interested in Irish sport. They have Philadelphia Eagles logos all over their Facebook. Why are we trying to force it on people?
I cringed at the line about the diaspora being here in spirit.
