McManus giving out about Carlow being relegated. Someone has to be relegated. The current system sets a qualifying standard for the provincial championships. Giving out for the sake of it! legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8284 - 27/05/2024 16:34:50 2547714 Link 0 |
No. Alot of us think the same. Did you read everything he said about development of the game, exposure, growth, keeping panels together, dissuading lads from travelling etc etc.

I'm surprised to hear that bit of news about Mulally tbh.

I feel sorry for Carlow - sent down after matching KK. omahant (USA) - Posts: 2889 - 27/05/2024 18:01:27 2547744 Link 1 |
So you want 4 from the group of 6 and 3 from the groups of 10 ? It's too complicated anyway. Let the lower division of the league serve as a qualifier for provincial championship. Revert provincial back to knockout. Provincial champions into aisf Runner up into aiqf Everyone else in all Ireland preliminary groups. The people who were in favor of a 2nd (even 3rd tier) in Football are now saying that it doesn't work for hurling even though hurling was cited as the example? Offaly, Antrim and Westmeath played in the NHL1. Next year with the changes the teams who would have come up from 2 will end up playing similar teams to themselves with only Waterford and Dublin as the two top tier teams. Why did the hurling counties allow this to go through? because the league started to mean little to teams other than perhaps the weaker counties. What would happen to round robins with these teams in it - the same thing. Carlow in the old league structure would have at least played 4 top tier teams - I don't think I can remember anyone complaining about it back then

I wonder who will take over the Kerry hurlers now that Stephen Molumphy has gone. Would like to see someone from one of the top counties take them over. Cant think of any recently retired players who would be suitable. I know that Brendan Cummins from Tipperary was involved as selector a few years ago. Maybe he could come in and do a job aidan64 (Kerry) - Posts: 668 - 30/05/2024 12:52:46 2548368 Link 0 |
What about Christy Walsh? He's a proud Kerry man but is living in Kilkenny. And a good hurling man too. He did really well with the Bennetsbridge hurlers. He's currently managing the Kilkenny football team.

Cummins would more than likely not show up to games if he'd the opportunity to be on TV. Something he actually did when he was involved with Kerry before. The problem with a lot of lads who come from "hurling counties" to the likes of Kerry is they're fully committed, not all but some. When Eamonn Kelly was managing Kerry we was also managing club teams. Michael Fennelly was playing with Ballyhale in the All-Ireland club championship, and I think he had a coach who was involved with Borris-Ileigh as well, when he became Offaly manager. If Kelly was managing Tipp and Fennelly Kilkenny neither would be involved with other teams like that. oneoff (UK) - Posts: 1472 - 31/05/2024 12:29:46 2548555 Link 0 |
Kerry going with an internal manager next year if rumours are to be believed. Past hurler (None) - Posts: 806 - 02/06/2024 23:04:18 2549051 Link 0 |
Laois v Offaly has the makings of another great McDonagh final. Offaly B ensured Laois didn't make the final last year. Carlow had other plans in the final however! Carlow motivated by Offaly wanting to play them! legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8284 - 03/06/2024 10:13:49 2549113 Link 0 |
I agree a local derby with a lot at stake.Id say the midland fans will ensure a healthy crowd at Croke Park.Hard to predict who will win but Laois with 8 probsble starters were very poor in Mullingar.Offaly might just sneak it because of a stronger bench.

I'd imagine somewhat over 10,000 Dubs, probably same from Kilkenny if they think it will be competitive which it ought to be. Around 10,000 for the McDonagh? Was small enough last year I think? Offaly on a high after 20s and Laois hurling well and local rivalry should boost it. Most will hardly stay for later game on a Saturday evening. At least Hill is open so be a bit better atmosphere than usual for a smallish crowd. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3118 - 03/06/2024 21:23:11 2549284 Link 0 |
Laois have better hurlers

Thought that might provoke a response! I'd have you as favourites but think Laois might sneak it again!

It won't be easy, if Offaly are to win they will have to be at their best.

I'm looking forward to the game. The 2 games should be close if all 4 teams bring their best form!

Laois can probably claim to be the greatest McDonagh champions as they went on to make the All-Ireland quarter-finals. Offaly are flying high off the back of the back of the U20 success. It seems teed up to be a good final. Both have a high enough profile. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8284 - 05/06/2024 17:02:13 2549746 Link 0 |
