Replying To Viking66:  "Just home. We did what we had to. Never really got out of 2nd gear. Gave lads their first championship appearances this year or ever, and 1st championship starts this year or ever. Rested a few lads, and Chin, Mogie and Mac went off early. Thought Rory could've been brought off too.
Hopefully good sense will prevail with the QF fixtures next weekend. Id like to see a double header in Croker on Sunday."
No it will be thurles anyway I think.

Because of course it has to be thurles, I mean couldn't dare think of anywhere else, I won't lie, I hate going there, every aspect of it.

Terrible road, pain in the ass to get to, no real option os getting there with public transport and literally nothing in the bloody place when you get there.

But hey let's not dare consider anywhere else but we will open croke Park for a game with barely over 10k at it.

They will flip the dates. Probably won't change venues. Thurles is a kip plus it's the graveyard of Wexford hurling.

Tailteann cup must be in Croke Park what a joke. A losers competition taking precedence over the SHC quarter finals.

Is a prelim QF and subsequent QF not technically a 'losers' segment of the competition too?

Probably not as both teams qualified either in top 3 or 2 of respective round Robins as stipulated by the competition rules. The Tailteann cup is for lower placed teams that have been knocked out. Its a secondary competition that given the choice no one would choose to be in. Preliminary quarter is a load of rubbish too ghats been covered in numerous posts.

The point is in mo way shape or form does Tailteann belong above The SHC in terms of venue, time, days or tv coverage.

Quite astounding what Sligo Football manager had to say on the subject of Hurling quarter finals being swapped with Football to Sunday.

An extract from the examiner -

"As far as I know, it's the hurling counties wanting to increase the profile of hurling and I understand that entirely. And the idea that these Tailteann Cup games are on a Sunday and not a Saturday makes no difference.

"However, the problem here is the Tailteann Cup has a certain status among the lower-ranked football teams and it has been given that status by the Association and the president, and at the first opportunity we have to recognise we change it just because people have requested it for the profile of hurling.

"These are hurling quarter-finals, which are probably dead rubber matches in the most case. My disappointment as a manager is in the Association and while I am not a Sligo man their decision to not support the lower-ranked counties and moving the Tailteann Cup semi-finals. In what is Jarlath Burns' first year as president, it would tar his very positive early start."

Two things.

1) You could bet your bottom dollar that if the Feile was being held in Cork or Limerick there'd be no way this farce would have happened. Like they are able to legislate for concerts being held in GAA venues, but don't have the foresight to take into account the biggest national underage competition when making their fixtures.

2) In fairness to the competing TC counties, the agreement was always there that the semi-finals would be a stand-alone televised day. We go on that there isn't enough promotion or coverage of hurling, yet it seems perfectly okay to shun the TC on the one weekend they were promised exclusivety. They have every right to be annoyed- there'd be uproar if an equivalent hurling competition was shunted around all to make up for a complete brain-fart from the powers-that-be.

Two wrongs don't make a right

Two years on from visiting Tralee, the Wexicans are causing trouble for the lower tier football community! I agree the hurling quarter-finals should be on Sunday. The lower tier football community however were dangled the carrot of Sunday semi-finals in Croke Park. The tiered structure in hurling and football might come under pressure. Some counties don't want the Tailteann. Offaly and Antrim want to live in a world where there is no relegation to the McDonagh Cup. The Tommy Murphy Cup failed because there was no tangible reward for winning it. A few years ago the Christy Ring winners had the choice of joining a provincial championship or remaining at Ring level. It seems counties want that choice though it not ideal.

To be honest Beano I agree with your points but what really caught my attention was the bolded part of the post -

"These are hurling quarter-finals, which are probably dead rubber matches in the most case".

Without knowing the man personally, I can only assume he thinks the 2 Munster teams only need to show up against the poor relations from Leinster.

Wasn't at the game yesterday so I'm not in a position to analyse it.
However we were far too good for most of the game. 32 points is a nice total but conceding 20 points is a little worrying. Clare will be a very different proposition altogether. Our record against them is poor. One win is all we can boast about. They were unlucky in the munster final, missing 2 gilt edged goal chances and then losing by 6 points to a Limerick team going for 5 all irelands in a row. We are a good bit goal shy and didn't get one yesterday against a team that will still be playing Joe Mac next year.
It's going to be an uphill struggle against the bannermen and if we are without Ryan solidifying our defence I really can't see us getting a positive result. Clare have a very potent forward line with Kelly and o'donnell capable of causing us major headaches. On the flip side we have Mac, Rory, Chin and young Byrne. If we can give them enough ball they will cause problems but they will need to be firing on all cylinders for lengthy periods.
Difficult assignment and I'm not confident at all.
Hopefully I'll be proved wrong , as usual.

Our request has nothing to do with football, tv or anything else only we are hosting the feile, near 50 clubs involved, expecting over 10 000 visitors that need to be put up and all by volunteers, gaa families that would otherwise be at thr quarter final..it's as simple as that, we can't be held responsible for whatever the gaa has promised Tailteann teams, they deserve their day in the sun too.

Clare we're not unlucky in the munster final they were completely outclassed. I wouldn't go as far as saying I'm confident but if we turn up there's absolutely no reason we can't beat Clare. Hoping for a massive Wexford crowd.

Agreed, no hard luck story for Clare the last day. Tony Kelly hasn't seemed fully fit since their injury and the likes of Conlan seem on their last legs at this level. Will still take our best performance of the year to beat them. Last two meetings with Clare, Fanning let in awful goals at key times and I think we have a better balanced team and squad now. I think we can do it, huge game for Wexford hurling. I think Mac can be the difference

Congratulations on the win. Best of luck against Clare. Ye have the ammo to get the job done. I hope that Chin is able to play because take him out yesterday and there wouldn't be too much at all between Laois and Wexford.

If we both had full squad of players, I give us a chance but at present we seem to be without D O K, Jack O, Ryan, Lawlor, C Molloy and possibility of Chin not been right now. That 4 or 5 starters. Clare as far as I know have a clean bill of health. I hope to god I am wrong, but I unfortunately can't see anything other than a clare win. Add in Thurles as the venue. We will be massive under dogs and with that injury list in particular, it hard to argue. I hope a big Wexford crowd will travel because the team will need them.

That is a massive worry regarding goals, if we're to have any chance of beating Clare we'll have to get at least 2 or 3
