2023 WEXFORD FOOTBALL C SHIP

Shels by 6

Best team in the county over the last 3 seasons, obviously had an off day last year in the final perhaps with an eye on Leinster the following week. In general, they have been head and shoulders above everyone over that time period and complacency probably cost them a shot at 3 in a row this Sunday. Expect Shels to start hard and fast and then play keep ball for much of the game which may expose the Castletown tactics of 13 behind the ball and counter attack. Not sure Castletown have beaten much to date in 2023 whereas Shels beat a quality Kilanerin side last week.

Cushinstown by 2

Not necessarily sure they have the better players but something is telling me that R/C can get over the line in this one. Impressive semi final win and a battle hardened squad who have been on the road a number of years. Gorey a relatively new squad and the format obviously helps them with the football side of things, they have the quality but the appetite of the opposition might just shade it.

Senior final is so hard to call, Shels will be highly motivated after last year when Castletown tactically did a number on them and I think they might edge it by a point or 2. Intermediate final is hard to judge I think Gorey have the higher ceiling but Cushinstown are a seriously dogged team with arguably the best player the grade in Eoin Porter, I'll go Gorey by 3, Intermediate A I think Rosslare will have to much firepower for Kilmore.

They were worthy winners overall, definitely showed greater composure towards the end, but some of their antics were deplorable. One fella with a closed fist punched tackle that put his opponent in an ambulance, another fella fouling more times than Rodri without picking up a yellow card, and a third deliberately impeding and subsequently lying on the goalie over a kick-out at the end. Referee lost control.

A great win today for the Shels after the disaster of a start. They remained calm and the black card for Castletown allowed them to come into the game just before half time. I think Castletown will be kicking themselves over some missed chances, Brosnan in particular kicked a couple of wides that he'd usually never miss. Castletown dominated mid field for the opening 20 minutes, when the Shels got a grip on this, this was the where the game changed. I thought Eoghan Nolan was brilliant, he really stood when their backs were to the wall and brought them back into the game.

The intermediate yesterday was very one sided, I've seen Gorey afew times this year and they got better week on week but yesterday they really peaked. They have some excellent footballers and have loads of speed across all areas of the pitch. The officials will be glad it was a one sided affair, if this came down to one or two point game it would of highlighted a particularly poor decision in the first half for Goreys first goal.

Oh, so it was all Shels fault ??
After giving Castletown a 5 point start, AND playing with numerical disadvantage, they did what was required to win.

Pots and Kettles, Shels antics are poor at times but ye aren't shy when it comes to the dark arts either, 6 points and a man up on 22 mins and no wind being a factor you can't really be looking elsewhere for excuses.

Two junior finals are fixed for New Ross on Saturday. With all the rain forecasted for the week, that pitch will be under pressure I would say

Shels carry on never good but then Castletown's main forward only there for medals...... some might say karma

In fairness after the fiasco of the final group games in Senior their has been plenty of flexibility shown around fixtures so I'm sure contingency plans are already in place if that is the case.

Seems as if the mods didn't like my first reply as I referenced an approach to the referee after the game. No team is innocent when it comes to having to win and losing teams and supporters will always see the game through very different lenses.

Seems about right, went to only a few senior games so I can't make a descent stab at it, anyone pick the intermediate team of year,
