They've been doing the same for years, and years. Whatever the live games they had on that day, they start with them again that night. It's so silly. Especially in this day and age, with the vast, vast majority of people well able to catch up on the live game, in full, if they so wish in anyways. They need to able to have more flexibility as well. The 2 hurling games, weren't great in terms of entertainment and talking points yesterday, Tipp Waterford was decent, whereas Lim Cork was over as a contest after 15 mins or so. God be with the days when they would show a few minutes of highlight reels from each of the games going on that weekend. For weaker counties it was our only time on the TV. Not even that now. Just lengthy highlights of the game they showed live just a few hours before, and toe-the-line chatter. If I paid a group of people not to say the word Longford for two hours, someone would blurt it out by accident more than the Sunday Game crew do. Granted we had a bad day yesterday, but the state of things being so bad (and why) also needs airing. Instead we had waxing about how good a thing Tailteann Cup is for weaker counties. Just to point out a small few errors from Dessie Dolan in last night's effort: The Sligo manager is Tony McEntee not John McEntee….. Kildare kicked 36 points against Leitrim not Tipperary. For a cavan supporter you'd be mad keen to see the highlights of beating mayo. For it to be so far into the highlights pretty much sent a whole pile of cavan people off to bed. I get the scheduling and producing challenges. They did move meath to top billing a few weeks ago but it's not straight forward. They do make the highlights available on YouTube straight after so you look at them this morning. I think people pretty much forget about the Sunday game analysis now. I don't really warm to the current set up and they don't have enough time to talk properly about the games either. So you just pick up the various gaa podcasts. The GAA need to split their packages of rights up the next time around. After sky pulled out, they just sold the sky matches to RTE - giving a complete monopoly. SKy (and TV3 before them) kept RTE honest and forced them to do a bit more with their coverage. Now they don't need to. Why they cant release 10 packages of rights is beyond me. Package 1 - Saturday night league football, Tailteann cup + Weekly hurling highlights (league and championship) (Virgin Media) Package 2 - Sunday afternoon league football and Provincial football championships (TG4/BBC) Package 3 - Saturday night All Ireland group stages + Sunday night football highlights package (RTE) Package 4 - Provincial Hurling Championships + Joe McDonagh final (RTE) Package 5 - Sunday afternoon football All Ireland (pre Q finals) + Monday night highlight package (GAA+) Package 6 - 1x hurling semi final + 2 x football qfinals (UTV) Package 7 - 1 x hurling semi final + 2 x football qfinals (RTE) Package 8 - All Ireland football semis + tailteann cup final (RTE/UTV) Package 9 - All Ireland mens hurling & ladies football finals (UTV) Package 10 - All Ireland mens Football finals and ladies camogie finals (RTE) There should also be 2 simultaneous national radio matches package also 1. Two matches on a sunday (2:00pm games and 4:00pm games (RTE) 2. Has anyone ever found out what matches Gaa plus actually have??rte have covered some games over the last few Saturdays but next weekend nothing..3 games on Gaa plus,2 free to air on Sunday.. Who came with plan of playing kk/Dublin at 3 on Sunday smack bang in the middle of 2 Munster c/ship games? I've watched minor and under 20 games on tg4 and their you tube channel and only for it,we'd never get to see some of the best young players in the country.. Next weekend there is big interest in Offaly/Antrim relegation game but no sign of coverage.. How many actually got to see Galway/Dublin in football?how many will get to see Donegal/Tyrone? There will a few more shocks on the way." Over confidence no. Cavan might not have been seen as a "glamour tie" but there are numerous reasons crowd numbers are way down. Confidence and morale in the team and management is at an all time low. Throw int he cost of going to games (games coming thick and fast) and the good weather etc there was always going to be a poor attendance. I'm not one bit surprised we were beaten. Its a very interesting championship tbh.Anyone of 6 or 7 could win it.Yeah Dubs in the mix too and Armagh Tyrone could have a big say yet also.I think its very hard to call a winner.A great win foe Dublin v Galway but i fancied Dubs tbh. I know there was alot of pessimism among Dublin supporters saying this team is nt half as good as Jim Gavins team.My retort is they dont need to be!
