I wouldn't be hugely familiar with the teams, but I thought Kildare were strongly fancied for this after the league? Didn't see the betting so may be wrong.

Great start for Carlow. They really struggled in the league.

I wonder can Offaly maintain the level. They have played Carlow, Kildare, Kerry, Kildare, Laois the last 5 weekends l. 2 more to go.

Carlow struggled in the league as they were missing a lot of big players & were never at full strength. The idea was to use the league to give exposure to more fringe players & develop our youth. Iv heard a lot about Carlow being in transition but that was a very strong & experienced Carlow team today. I'm not making any bold predictions about us winning the Mcdonagh Cup but they will certainly be a lot more competitive than they were in the league. Its wide open really & any team could beat anyone on a given day. It's a great competition

Huge result for Offaly given their injury struggles. Seems they have finally found the right man for the job to lead them in the right direction.
It's one step forward and two back with Laois. They have plenty of talent but something hasn't been right there for years

Laois are going to be a dangerous animal for the rest of the McDonagh. Offaly and Laois are the raging hot favourites to make the McDonagh final.

It's probably been 5 years or so years since I saw a Carlow side play to the standard they did yesterday. Forwards were so sharp, always out on front and some of the inter play between them was very impressive. Back line was also very strong, especially in the first half playing with a strong wind. Cleaned up alot of ball and gave up very little.

All of Carlow's top men performed, Marty Kavanagh lethal from dead balls, James Doyle very strong in the middle and Chris Nolan very sharp from play. Also worth mending two of the newer lads on the panel, Conor Kehoe is an absolute handful, but has bags of skill to go along with it. Paddy Boland having scored 4 goals against Down in the league, bagged himself another hat trick.

I have sympathy for Kildare. Very tough ask to lose a league final six days before your first Championship outing against a team who hadn't played a game in 3 weeks. They were sluggish, turned over alot of ball and were a step behind Carlow. yesterday. They're a far better team tan what they showed yesterday, but with tough games to come, will they have the time to rectify it?

Carlow were unlucky not to make the final last year. Some people can get too carried away with league results. Kildare and Laois will be dangerous opponents next weekend.

No doubt but I'd have expected them to beat Offaly all the same. By all accounts it was a fairly decent game. Would love to see offaly back and competing at the top level

Laois and Offaly aren't a million miles apart. One relegated. One promoted. Good news for the rest that Division 2A hurling does provide a competitive level. Carlow and Kerry gave Antrim good games last year.

I suggest you stick with your football, there are no raging hot favourites to make the Mc Donagh final, one or two may be slight favourite, no more no less mo cara.

Laois are as bad as I've seen them in 40 years. And Dublin and Laois have generally been on a par for most years. Not impossible they might pull something out of the fire, but I doubt it to be honest. And I don't say that with any pleasure.

Joe McDonagh Cup round 2
Kildare v Offaly, TBC, 2pm
Kerry v Carlow, Austin Stack Park, 2pm
Laois v Down, Laois Hire O'Moore Park, 3pm

Kildare and Laois need to bounce back from opening day defeats. Laois will be favourites. Kildare have it tough with in form Offaly visiting. Kerry v Carlow is a 50:50 game. Carlow were left rueing missing out on the final last year after a fine victory over Offaly.

Joe McDonagh Cup round 2
Kildare 3-11 Offaly 2-22, Hawkfield - FT
Kerry 0-21 Carlow, 0-21, Austin Stack Park - FT
Laois 7-24 Down 0-14, Laois Hire O'Moore Park - FT

Advantage Offaly after Round 2. Laois won as expected. Kerry and Carlow drew. Today's results indicate an Offaly v Laois final. A lot of hurling still to be played yet of course.

Looking like a relegation battle already between Kildare and Down. Surprising that they're both very much off the pace and they've been very competitive in recent years.

Competitive in the league. Championship is different.

Considering Carlow haven't won in Kerry for quite a while now, a draw is a good result. Game played out that way also, Carlow had a few goal chances in the first which they didn't take, but Kerry put in a strong second half.

Other games played out as expected. Down look to be really struggling at the moment, will be surprised if they survive. Even after the great work they put in over the past few years, standard is unforgiving in the McDonagh.

Massive game for both Carlow and Laois next weekend.

Good performance by Carlow and should have had at least 3 goals
in the first half. But fair play to Kerry who regrouped at half time and
battled to the end.

We have to beat either Leix or Offaly anyway so nothing lost.

Great performance yesterday and will feel unlucky not to get the 2 points. Looks like the game vs lapis will be the big one for us although we did get a result v Offaly last year when needed.

Not writing off down v us bit after the league game would expect 2 points.

In my opinion the Joe mcdonagh is the best competition the gaa has just now majority of the games are crackers and teams have very little between them. We could have any 2 of Offaly laois Kerry or Carlow in the final.

Really have to wonder how the gaa doesn't give the rights to tg4 to show these games really is a shame and would be a better watch than the puke football we see most weekends.

It is a great competition. One of the most competitive across all levels. It is not transferring into big crowds however.

It's a real pity that the highlights on TG4 on a Monday show one game that wasn't shown on Sunday then seem to rehash the Sunday Game highlights. Surely it would be far better to dedicate the Monday highlights to the so called 'lesser counties' and competitions like the Joe McDonagh and Tailteann Cup.
