Replying To The_analyser:  "Division 3 they were in (gained promotion to Division 2) was Quarter finals back then which they won and eventually lost the semi final to Derry.

As already said Armagh 2002 the last team to win Sam having played their league football in Div 2.

Since then Down (2010) Donegal (2014) Mayo (2021) Galway (2022) reached and lost All Ireland finals from playing Div 2 league football in the spring."
I wasn't aware division 2 football teams had such a strong record in reaching football finals.

Replying To Ulsterman:  "You sound like most of those in Britain who voted for Brexit. "It's all the foreigners fault.....so it is". Swap foreigners for Northerners and It's exactly the same. Unfortunately your view is far more common than many will admit. The fact that your totally nonsensical, sweeping statement even made it on to the boards speaks volumes. If that was said about anyone else it would be called out as bigoted racism. I bet this reply to you doesn't even make it on to the thread."
Ah now Ulsterman, I think it's a bit of a stretch to call it 'racism'. Folks north of the border are not a distinct ethic/ racial group. He may be making crude generalizations about Ulster football but to call it racism is a bit strong, no???

Replying To tirawleybaron:  "The biggest obstacle to the promotion of hurling in Mayo, Roscommon, Leitrim, Connemara, West Clare, South Kerry, West Cork, West Donegal, Fermanagh, Tyrone, Monaghan etc is not the refusal to support it by the county board.

Those places struggle to have sufficient flat fields to allow hurling be played at all.
You can play football on a farmer's field, hurling needs a proper pitch"
How come hurling thrived in parts of Antrim where many native Irish were turfed out of good arable land and had to make do with plots on higher more undulating land?

Self awareness? Could you not see it?

I'd say the gane there was traditionally more shinty like but they adapted GAA rules after 1884.

In fairness he did say, "if it was said about anyone else", it would be.
While the same poster goes way overboard at times, I do agree with the general point that there are many who make derogatory comments about people purely because they're from the 6 counties.
I see it on here regularly in relation to various matters.

I'm not saying it the foreigners fault. I am just saying they always have to blame someone else, its never their fault. They are blaming the ref for Sunday, did he kick those balls wide? Did he run out of legs on them? No. Was he diving? But yet again, just go deflect it onto someone else and attack someone for pointing out the obvious.

Then you have to ask yourself why the HS Mods allow so many hateful, spiteful anti Northern comments through? All over the various HS threads there are invariably anti Northern comments on a daily basis and the Mods don't appear to have any problem with that.

People from north of the border are not "foreigners"!

Either you are taking the pee - and failing the part that it ought to be humorous - or you are not particularly bright?

When you read **** like the below I have to concede you have a point.
No proper GAA man/woman would use the divisive terms like "foreigners" or "king's subjects" to describe fellow Irish men. One can only assume they are not very well educated at all.

I never called them that, they just called themselves that. Read the thread. Maybe they're not far wrong.

Derry blew that semi in fairness.. We would have got slaughtered in the media if it was us who collapsed in such fashion in 2nd half and rightly so.. Brolly would have wrote another stinker of a piece!.. "bottlers" "celebtrity losers".. al that jazz!

Back to the game itself. The ref wasnt great but it was the wides and goal chances that what cost Derry the game.. Even 1 or 2 of those go over to stretch it out could have been enough.. Derry will be back though

As for the final, I think Kerry will do it.. Clifford will be the difference as is the case in every Kerry game in the knockout stages.. They are lucky to have him.. What a player though

No question this Derry team will be there or thereabouts for the next decade or so. The age profile of the team plus minor All Ireland winners twice in the last four years means there has to be a Sam Maguire in this golden period. Maybe even more than one.

I have watched the game back now a few times. We should have won and maybe a little bit of inexperience and lack of depth cost us. For what it's worth I never got the coverage over Mayo bottlers etc. Maybe a case could be made for 2021 against Tyrone or 2012 against Donegal but ye came up against the best team ever in a number of finals and but for that should have had 2 or 3 yourselves.

I wonder if Wexford was around 50 per cent unionist population what division they'd be in both codes? Would they even have two codes or would they do a Kilkenny and not even bother entering a football side. The 6 counties put up with a lot of **** just for existing as GAA members and despite that, they represent in both codes. You're displaying a pathetic understanding of the island you live on. A shame the schools don't send extra homework for the summer months.
