Yer man with the tattoos from Clare who dived to get Hegarty sent off last year. Shameful stuff.

Regardless of who did whatever in the past, there should be a line in sand now & anyone going forward feigning injury should be yellowcarded & if completely overly dramatic redcarded. OpenStand (Limerick) - Posts: 525 - 10/03/2023 12:24:35 2463167 Link 1 |
Yes Tiernan Mc Cann might have went down easily but rules are you can't lift your hand to an opponent. Plenty of times Hughes went over the line and got away with it. Lads diving like Kelly last week I'm sure would regret it after match. Roll on Clones.

Conor McManus - his legs end up over his head and refs fall for it all the time

I said it before and say it again. It is "diving" when it is every other county, when it is your own the crowd will be roaring for a free no matter how the player hits the deck. Anybody being too self-righteous here needs to look at how they react the next time a referee waves his hands for a player to get up. If i was manager of a team and one of my players feigned an injury, id take him straight away. Id prefer not to win than cheating. Equally anyone trash talking to an opponent about their family wouldnt be on my team or squad for that matter . OpenStand (Limerick) - Posts: 525 - 10/03/2023 13:40:43 2463199 Link 8 |
Padraig Maher of Tipp also springs to mind. Got plenty of handy frees coming out/charging with the ball. Didn't take much to floor him

Yes. It does take that sort of leadership, And same goes for some of the assaults on officials. If the correct ethos is not there, then you will get players up to all sorts.

Aiden O Shea dive against Fermanagh back a few years to win a penalty for Mayo with about 5 minutes left when it looked like Fermanagh had a great chance to pull of a shock win Totalballer (Monaghan) - Posts: 39 - 10/03/2023 15:12:08 2463229 Link 5 |
I'm not too sure about that. We don't approve of the theatrics of a certain corner back down here

Peter Canavan the best diver i ever seen, he was absolutely brilliant at it many a day i thought he was going to roll off the pitch

Strange. I always thought Peter Canavan has been widely regarded as Gaelic footballs Lionel Messi. Both players were constantly hacked and fouled but generally refused to go down. I think at the very least Peter didn't go down very easily lambofgod (Mayo) - Posts: 116 - 11/03/2023 07:27:06 2463289 Link 4 |

There are two types of "diving" being discussed here. Players going down to win a free has been part of the game for years - I can recall it happening as far back as the 1960s, especially in football, where a clever forward goes down and convinces the referee that he has been fouled. A much more sinister element has been creeping in recently where a player feigns injury in an attemot to get an opponent sent off. How many times have we seen a hurler going down after a challenge and the first thing he does is take off the helmet, even when the tackle has been no where near his head? midlands (Westmeath) - Posts: 463 - 11/03/2023 10:13:02 2463308 Link 2 |
In fairness to Canavan he shipped his fair amount of heavy tackles in his day. Once he got the ball in hand it was open season on him.
