2 glaring omissions from the awards are Rian O'Neill and Tom O'Sullivan

Not sure why Rian was omitted. I think Tom's performance in the final is why he was omitted but his performances up to then were outstanding and deserving of an All Star

Tom suffered big time for having to mark Shane Walsh in the final.
I'd agree with you on both points, but I will ask who you'd drop from the team for both lads.
I'd also ask the same of anyone suggesting other players in this thread.

Conor Glass, year was a bit over-hyped. Disappeared when it mattered vs. Galway.

Rodgers has to be there, ahead of either Morley or Silke.

I'd probably plump for Rafferty in goal too given the crazy year he had in nets.

Alas only 15 players can make it and I thought the selectors got it fairly right. Yes Brendan Rogers unlucky but Morley of Kerry was brilliant right through the championship as was Jason Foley. I know I'm biased but for me from the start Foley Morley and David Clifford were certs for all stars. Rogers unlucky as was Tom Sullivan and Lee Gannon. Rian Ó Néill very unlucky but for me Ciarán Kilkenny was brilliant all year and deserved his all star. Comer also deserves award although a very quiet final. However Galway would not have been in a final only for Comer. Conroy unlucky too.

The thing is they don't 'highlight players that have stand out years', they tend to highlight players who have had a couple of stand out games in the semi-finals and final.

Martin Breheny wrote about it yesterday in the Independent:
Why the All-Star selection system needs an urgent upgrade
Too much emphasis is placed on what happens in a small number of games... (the rest of the article is behind a paywall).

No, League is not taken into effect so players who have had an outstanding league will not be in the running.
Its only for the counties who get into later stages of championship.

All stars should be picked on all the divisions a team in each league. Would be great to see players in div 4 going up on stage to collect an all star.

Should do something similar for the Tailteann Cup

I dont agree!! Simple solution, set up league all stars for each division at the end of the league campaign!!

If Kilkenny didn't get one, I don't think anyone would be saying he should have got one.
Comer bit lucky, very quiet in the final but he was double marked and it freed up space for Walsh, he deserved his award.

I don't think Morley is one of the best 6 defenders in the country, he played sweeper role and didn't mark a forward all year. I did some good things in the sweeper role but I don't think he deserved an all-star.

Disagree with Comer being fortunate. Well deserves his All Star. Up until the final he was being talked about by most GAA sports journos as a strong candidate for footballer of the year. He was powerful in all games until the final and Galway's poor supply to him in the final was the fault there. Sure he practically won us the AI semi final, full standing ovation when he came off, even the Derry supporters around us said he was a phenomenon.
